I don't think Ottawa would trade either 1st this year for Matthew Tkachuk let alone Johnny Gaudreau

No way either of those trades happen. Ottawa would never do that, especially with Lucic as a forced addition. You seem to have greatly overrated Gaudreau's value.

What if the picks are lottery protected? People are pushing for a 1st+ for the 45 point crew (Toffoli, Athanasiou, Saad, Zucker). Gaudreau actually has skill compared to these guys.

What is the benefit for Ottawa in this trade? They are a rebuilding team. All of their best players are young. The picks will help them add to that talent base (including a shot at #1 overall this year) or be used as trade chips to land somebody they actually want. You are forcing on them a guy who appears to have his best days behind him, and a salary cap dump. This doesn't fit their plan at all. Choose a different trade partner.

And the value of the first round pick is directly related to whose pick it is. A Tampa Bay pick is going to mean less then San Jose's pick here for example.

Ain't no way rebuilding Sens draft lottery picks for two year of Gaudreau. And logic, he NMC is still in place....doubt if wants Ottawa

You're right people are pushing for silly rentals. And some of those suggestions are foolish for a lottery team or a near lottery team. 1st rounders are traded for rentals if the buyer thinks they are going to finish into top 8 in the league.....not the bottom five.

So you're saying a proven 70 point player or a proven 90 point player isn't worth a single unproven prospect? Lol

Sorry the NMC was for the unneeded Lucic...which makes the trade even worse for Ottawa
