Why would Toronto trade a second and a third for demers when there are a dozen ufa defensemen who are just as good?

won't get them as cheap. Demers has been pretty good this year too. Arizona has to move cap if they want to resign Hall or bring in some forward depth

Because players get overpaid in UFA and because alot of those guys won't make it to UFA and with demers you know the term and AAV already and dont have to negotiate

3.5 mil for Demers isn’t exactly cheap either. And he isn’t that good.

They’re not all better than demers but you’re telling me that you’d rather give up a second or a third for Jason demers than sign one of those names on that list? And I’m not even including all the guys who are only marginally more expensive like hamonic and Vatanen.

DeMelo - maybe 2.5M, but i don't see him leaving ottawa
Braun - worse than demers. commanded the same thing this offseason. will probably get between 2.75-3.5M
TVR - worth a try. worse than demers, but also cheap. i think other teams will be thinking the same tho
Gudas - he will have a bunch of teams calling him. he will command more money because of demand. if not, he resigns cheap in WSH
Tanev - he's in the 4-5.5M range
Dillon - left shot defenseman. leafs dont need or want him
Heed - really now?
Shattenkirk - a dumb team probably gives him above 4M
Edmunson - again, left shot. i see him taking a long deal on a team like LA or detroit that will overpay out of need
Bouwmeester - blues or retirement

One of Kapanen or Johnsson goes before Hyman.

Gotta think the Leafs are going to their own RFA, Engvall and Brooks before signing UFAs Nieto and Eakin. Campbell an NHL goalie with two years is worth a lot more than a fourth rounder.
Liljegren and Holl are RHDs next year. Who is the third? If Mayfield show he still NHL capable....I think the Leafs like the NYI deal because of the 3 year term.
