So you obliterate our 4th line which has been one of our better lines for nothing in return. Larsson has actually been putting up great numbers if you look at the analytics he is someone that should remain a sabre. I dont mind moving on from girgensons but at this point I would rather just let his contract expire. The penguins wont add more salary from that trade since they are looking to add a big time forward so it would likely take one of those guys and a low to kid pick. And why in the world would we take backes from Boston. We would be helping their cap out and would he ruining ours. That is a quick way to stay irrelevant. So none of these trades makes us better now or in the future. So it makes more sense to do none of those trades.

Thanks for stopping by. As we miss the playoffs again, I'm glad you have a decent 4th line to hold onto. We need to move on from guys that have done nothing but lose while producing little.

Backes has one year left and we have like 30 million in cap space. He would be a good presence in the locker room and will help the bottom 6

Didnt mean no shade, as I completely agree with you. There are many players we need to move on from as our core is obviously not good enough to be contenders. So I agree changes need to be made.

With Backes however we have to eat 6 mil for another year. That 6 mil to have in the bottom 6 really hinders the sabres ability to go and make a real change. 6 mil can fetch you a good 2nd line player and it's a shame to have that money spent on a morale booster in the bottom 6.

I agree with where your head is at i would just donit a. It different.

My only hesitation with breaking up our 4th line is that so many other forwards need to be brought in. Botterill is really becoming the student that turns in half of their homework. Having said that, theres 3 things that dont help the 4th lines cause- 2 of them are leading the penalty kill- which is poor to say the least, they have been here for far too long without winning- i believe that it becomes acceptable which is not, and the scoring is nil (maybe thats nit picking for a 4th line, but when only one line ever scores or even threatens, all hands on deck).

Asplund and lazar and oglivie (in Rochester) are all cheap and capable, okposo is still here too. Larsson and girgensons will cost more and have done nothing but lose. These guys are replacable

Backes is bad, we don’t have much money in the cap next season. And we still need to find 2C, top 6 RW and create a battle-worthy third link, I think this is more important than a guy like Backes.

The players themselves may be replacable, but we'd be hard pressed to find a name as good as Zemgus Girgensons. I feel like if we take on Backes, Boston would at least toss us a pick in the 3rd-5th round range.
