Jets add a dman and forward-Sabres Wings trades

Created by: MisstheWhalers

Description
Pretty self explanatory really, does this team make the playoffs?

Samberg is apparently NHL ready and is likely wanting to turn pro next season and could sign once this college season ends, he looks to be a top 4 LHD so would be a nice addition for the Wings defense. Even if they couldn't sign him they could trade his rights for a pick similar to the Fox trade. Sent Spacek along, maybe he gets a chance with a rebuilding Wings team, Maurice will never give him a chance, he's been pretty good at the AHL level. Is that enough for Athanasiou? Could add B-prospect or mid to late round pick to sweeten the pot a bit.

Is that enough for Miller? Could add a B-prospect or another mid round pick if necessary, don't bother asking for Roslovic.

Really think these are two guys Chevy should be trying to add and they'll both be affordable next season as well cause I think the RFA'S the Jets have to sign like Roslovic, Niku, etc are gonna be looking at smaller money "prove it" bridge deals so signing Athanasiou wouldn't be an issue. This sets up okay for the looming expansion draft as well cause the Jets are gonna lose a decent but ultimately expendable player so not a big deal, I'm sure they'll make a trade of some sorts with Seattle anyway.

I really don't know what's going on with Buff but I think he's done as a Jet unfortunately and isn't returning this season or next.

All opinions are welcome.

I love Wheeler as 2C.

Surprised you want to part with Samberg for just AA.

You like AA that much? Also isn't there someone slightly better out there than Miller that Chevy can add?

Actually I'm kinda surprised you wouldn't mind trading Samberg. I figured you would be against giving him up.

Yeesh, we’re not giving that up for AA. I think we’re gonna see Samberg signed once the college season is done. That DET trade is not happening. If Samberg wasn’t going to sign with us Im sure Chevy would’ve dealt him by now. He’ll have a spot in the NHL. I doubt buf accepts that deal too. They need impact players. Not a slow slug in Lowry.

I'm a big Athanasiou fan and think his speed would be a big add for the Jets, think he could rebound in Winnipeg.
I'm not that high on Samberg so would happily deal him for an RFA like AA.

Doubt the Sabres are getting any impact forwards for Miller.

Samberg sucks, if they could turn him into Athanasiou they'd be crazy not to, imagine adding AA's speed to the Jets.

Highly doubt the Sabres get an impact player for Miller.

I do like Athanasiou that much, think he'd rebound in Winnipeg.
I think Miller wouldn't cost a fortune to acquire which is why I think they should target him plus he's not a rental.
I think Samberg is meh, if I could turn him into AA I'd do it and not look back.

What about swapping Stanley for Samberg?

Sure thats even better for the Jets... Lol

But I doubt the Wings do that, I'm sure their pro scouts have watched Stanley at the AHL level and would say it's a bad deal which is why I put Samberg in there, if you want to acquire a decent player who's put up 30 goals and an RFA you're gonna have to part with a good prospect which Samberg is. I'm not very high on him but I'm sure NHL scouts would be, If they preferred Stanley though yeah I'd swap him in for Samberg.

Wait why do you think Samberg sucks? He’s got size 6’4”, ~215 lbs, he can skate really well, is a great shutdown d-man but still scores (13pts in 15 games in one of the toughest leagues in NCAA hockey). He PKs and is on the PP. Hes got pretty much every tool to be a complete d-man in the NHL.

Any thoughts on Byfuglien returning or not?

Cap wise, viable for him to return after these moves?

From what I've watched of him I haven't been impressed with him, doesn't use his size enough and looks lost in the defensive zone, his numbers may look good but he's really not an offensive dman.
He's a low event player and the Jets have enough of those, they need to play a speed/high event game to win, Samberg doesn't fit into that style of game.

If I could move him for something like Athanasiou I'd do it but that's just my opinion.

Word is his rehab from his surgery repaired ankle is done and now it's time for him to test it out on the ice so we'll see where that goes. I think there's way more to this Buff drama then we're being told, I never bought the "pondering retirement" story plus there was obviously some locker room issues going on last season and that's where I think this Buff situation came from, what that is though I really don't know.

Maybe he returns but personally I don't think it's gonna happen, if he did come back these moves arent possible, I put that in the description though I think, sorry if I didn't.

Yeah I don’t understand why he’s so down on Samberg. He’s going to be really good. I’ve watched a number of his games and he’s really good. I think he’s immediately going to be a top 4 dman and will be really solid. He’s good defensively so I’m confused what he’s talking about... yeah maybe he doesn’t use his size right now but he looks like a man vs boys in the NCAA. With a good defenseman coach in Huddy, he’ll be a stud.

No idea, if so I doubt it's with the Jets but anything is possible I guess.

There's rumors of a rift between Buff and Wheeler so maybe that's what the issue is but who knows. Last TDL the Jets acquired Matt Hendricks for his leadership qualities but no one ever seems to ask why they signed him for the season before when they want to the WCF, obviously these dressing room problems have been around for awhile and everything that's been said about Bitetto is that he's quite the "character/glue guy" but he's pretty bad on the ice so there's gotta still be something going on if they're willing to keep a bad player on the ice just for his locker room presence. Really think this Buff issue has been building for awhile so can't see him returning to the Jets, we'll see what happens I guess.

Have you watched him live at all? He was unimpressive and liability actually when I watched him, his world junior appearances for the US was nothing special either. He just doesn't impress me and think you can pick up similar defensemen fairly easily so if he could be turned into a former 30 goal scorer that needs a change of scenery who could excel with a high power offense like the Jets I'd make that trade all day everyday.

That's a pretty big question that I'm really interested in as well. The legal stuff is just complicating everything.

I'm sure he could be a fine #4 guy but really he just doesn't stand out as any better then some guy we could pluck off waivers.. Lol

So if I could swap him for something like Athanasiou I'd definitely do it, I just don't see Samberg as being some kind of savior of the Jets defense.
