Why rebuilding We could have a decent team next year

Description
We’re not that far away from getting a decent team. The core of the team isn’t that old except maybe from price and Weber who still brings a lot of leadership. If we really had wanted to rebuild we should had trade Weber and price few years ago because now they are almost untradable.

So, I think we should give up for this year and we could trade players like Tatar who won’t have a place In our top6 in the future and location players like Thompson. So, WE SHOULDNT TRADE IMPORTANT PLAYERS LIKE PETRY, WEBER, PRICE OR DOMI for picks and prospects for now but I could see us trade them this summer for NHLers to feel our needs. Keep in mind that last year we were just few points away from making the playoff and our team can just get better next year with all the young guns.

THANK YOU. I've been tryna say that. Look at that core. Suzuki has already shown his potential. he's capable of being a top line player and put up 70 plus points. Caufield is gonna be an elite goal scorer. Romanov is coming in next year. mete is getting better every game and he's only 21. We have Price's successor in Primeau. he'll be taking the work load off Price. Only guy I would trade is Petry over the next 2 years. Tatar is gonna get traded for sure. thompson, weal etc etc will also be dealt eventually. idk why fans are crying for a fire sale, when we've been retooling this whole time. they should be happy that we could land a good pick in this draft. u can't tank in this league. there is no guarantee that by tanking you'll get the 1st overall pick. over the past 6 years only 1 team that had finished dead last won the 1st overall pick and that was toronto with matthews. so if the habs do a firesale, based on past years you'll be playing 1/6 chance that if u end up last, you'll get that pick. i know the odds are different in terms of chances of winning based on position you end with, but even if you end up dead last, there are no guarantees that mtl will get the 1st oa pick. imagine thye pull a vancouver and end up drafting 5th or something. that puts the team even further back in the retool because u have a losing culture without your two studs in price and weber.

Exactly. Plus, in the draft this year there is so much depth. There’s like 9 players that could go in the top 5. At this stage, I would be happy to draft one of them no matter who

Please don't take this as leaf fan trolling you. It's not my intention. You don't have elite talent, that is why you rebuild. You need a franchise centre and top end talent. To get that you need to rebuild. Getting a bunch of 2nd liners all over your roster doesn't make you a contender.

I understand your point of view but we’ve already somehow done the rebuild (or the reset). We haven’t made the playoff 4 times in the last 5 years and we have accumulated elite prospect like Suzuki, Caufield, kk, Romanov, Primeau and we are going to have a top 10 pick again this year.

I am not sure any are truly elite. Montreal has been too good to be bad enough to get the future core they need

I wouldn’t rebuild, but possibly attempt to reallocate your 20 plus million it’s going to take with domi, price, and Webber contracts next few seasons. One worry would be price and Webber wear down and break down before the kids are truly ready. I just feel with price and Webber, the team will be stuck in pergatory, along the lines of the Minnesota Wild perennial bubble team. Those were some nasty contracts, who in there right mind handed out 10 plus year contracts

This team should be good enough to make a good run in the playoffs. I know it’s not ideal because the rebuild should had been made few years ago but I’m ok with that

So price is not what he used to be. As the young guys get better (still no elite franchise centres) you older guys will get worse and cost way too much (Weber and Price) and that is going to leave you where you are now. Not good enough to contend and not bad enough to get elite talent.

As a neutral Ranger fan, it seems to me you do have a lot of good going talent, especially the forward group. Maybe there is a lack of a real star on the NHL roster but perhaps Caufield and whoever they draft in the 1st round this year be able to really stand out. I'm less sure about your defense, but I dont look at the overall situation as being anything like the mess the Rangers are trying to work their way out of.

I get that it's pretty much impossible to move Price and Weber and not wanting to move Domi cause he's young enough to be part of a contender in the future but there's no point hanging on to Petry or Tatar unless you're gonna try to contend next season.

I actually really like the players MTL has upfront, but the problem I see is two-fold. Firstly, though I like them, I do not think there is any elite talent upfront. I think you need that to be contenders. You see Tampa, Toronto, Boston, Pittsburgh, Colorado, etc. They all have that. And secondly, I think the window makes no sense with this team. Seems like MTL is trying to stock some guys and is waiting for them to be ready. Stands to reason. But the problem there is that they have guys like Weber, Petry, and Price where the time is now. A window in 2plus years makes no sense with them. And on top of that you have some really good players like Gallagher, Danault and Armia all as ufa's soon. The makeup in terms of projecting out with this team is confusing.
