Pretty good, because you have Ty Smith & Jack Hughes.

(Even if Kakko's better)

It means nothing until one of the 4 breaks they have a season and all teams are at the same amount of games player .

NCAA operates scheduling around class with school coming first as opposed to Canadian junior where many leave school to focus on hockey and home school . NCCA prospects as a result are rarely prepared to jump to the NHL directly because they arent prepared to play 10 months a year with few breaks. That would be almost barable if they played a real playoff format instead of the round robin non sense.

before the break Caufield was tied with 6 guys for 2nd with 1 goal less then Thompson&Co .
behind Thompson,Madden , Wilkie and Leonard who were tied for first in goals scored

Thompsons good but lets be real , of the top 10 NCAA goal scorers maybe 3 will make the NHL , another 4-5 will make the AHL and 1-2 will leave for europe like most NCAA top 10 goal scorers (look at the last 3 years of NCAA goal scorers stats and look at where most of them are now )

Same Production rate offensive but in less games and the edge defensively goes to Hughes as does . Opponents score more when Kakko's on ice then if Hughes is .
A Center who scores goals as consitently as a Winger praised for his goal scoring acumen will add value that confirms Hughes >Kakko

I don't think Thompson is currently #1....or even in top-5. But his scoring rate has been impressive this year. He could jump into tier II soon.

This is how I would list top Devils best prospects as of 1/12/2020:

Tier I
1. Ty Smith, LHD
2. Kevin Bahl, LHD

Tier II
3. Daniil Misyul, LHD
4. Mike McLeod, C
5. Nick Merkley, C

Tier III
6. Mikhail Maltsev, C/W
7. Tyce Thompson, C
8. Nikola Pasic, C/W
9. Aarne Talvitie, W
10. Nathan Bastian, W

Tier IV
11. Nate Schnarr, C/W
12. Reilly Walsh, RHD
13. Graeme Clarke, W
14. Marian Studenic, W
15. Xavier Bernard, LHD

(Joey Anderson would be top of tier III if he still had prospect eligibility)
