I put together a scenario in which the Leafs can try to dump Marner and bring in elite defence and goaltending: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/297695&post_id=1228659

Can't see them being a cup winning team unless they part with one of their elite forwards to balance it out.

Yeah, no. They're not trading Marner.

This is honestly a huge opportunity for Sandin.
He might not be ready, but I could also see him seizing the opportunity and becoming our best Dman for the next 2 months..

Rielly and company have not set the bar insanely high. If he can get comfortable and replicate his play in the AHL, this could be a blessing in disguise.

But I think if the Leafs ever need to move one of their 4 best forwards, the odd man out is most likely Marner.

Marner is your wet dream ( from when you started to post threads ) not the odd man out.....

Or they just don't move their 4 best forwards. You don't sign a guy for 11 million just to trade him off immediately.

Yeah Sandin might end up being a Stud.... but he's an undersized 2000 born player.. sooooo young....

His skill might be put on display on the offensive zone, but there's absolutely no way that he's going to be able stop the NHL best in the defensive zone... He's going to be a liability in the defensive zone.. He's just physically not there yet

You very well might be right, but its too soon to say.
Rielly wasn't exactly playing good D either. I am pretty confident that Sandin could at least play to that level, but we will see.

The Penguins didn't win very convincingly in 2017 but their 2016 cup win was dominant. They had solid shutdown defensemen like Dumoulin, Lovejoy and Cole. Even Maatta played well. I see too much finesse on the Leafs' blueline and not enough of that stability. Except from Muzzin and maybe Ceci when he's on the third pair.

Sure they can. Replace him with a player up to his salary, then just keep Reilly on LTIR until the playoffs begin. Once the regular season is over, the salary cap no longer applies.

Chicago did it with Patrick Kane in 2015. Here's an entire article about it:

I was un aware it doesn't apply in playoffs, are you sure it isn't a % they can go over the cap by? (To bust to read an article atm)

Yes. They'll need to be in compliance after July 1 (i.e. 10% over the cap), but by that time, the cap will have gone up and they'll be rid of several contracts through free agency.

Yeah sure, I can embrace being biased as every fan should, but this would not be a trade the Leafs would even consider. I'm not saying its a steal for NY either. It doesn't really make sense for either team.

Whether opposing fans like it or not, Nylander is an integral part of the Leafs core. He isn't going anywhere and you wouldn't trade him unless you were getting an objectively better piece back in the deal.

So... Bias? Maybe, yeah. But I'm not wrong.

*Also... Why would you call him a non-biased fan? He is NYR fan. In this context that is the definition of biased, which also reveals your bias towards the Leafs.

Cheers

Yes he might be a big part but imo he more likely to be trade over Matthews Tavares or marner and between all four you have 40mil locked up. Let’s see how far you can get in the playoffs with no defense or no depth. Also thatguy is a sens fan so I don’t know if you know what bias is.
Cheers?

I know precisely what bias is. I was saying he has a bias against the Leafs, which is clear. That core is staying together. Thats the model they are going with.
