Price is not getting traded

Created by: Zetna
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 13, 2020
Published: Jan. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
No one will take the cap hit, unless they retain 50% minimum. He has been decent but not nearly up to his 10.5M cap hit. Unless it was 50% retained on Price for like a second round pick and like a C level prospect, Price is staying in Quebec.

Btw, NHLTradeRumors is not a reliable source at all. My left nut is more reliable.

They start playing in the 2021-2022 season.

Which means at the end of next season it'll get interesting.

Trading Carey Price to trigger the entire hockey fanbase, particularly the Avs' ( @coga16 ), has been a daily routine here in AGM.
It has gotten to the point even non-Habs are making these trades. lmao smh

Wondering how many people actually realize just how bad that contract really is. It’s not just the AAV and 6 years left after this one. Go check out the buyout calculator on it. It’s almost buyout proof for the duration as well.

He will play out the contract, not at the 10.5 value but still think he has a Lundqvuist / Rinne like career, plays until his late 30s at least.

People can complain that he isn't what he used to be but there are still a few NHL GMs that think he ie the best goalie in the league and would trade for him. Im not aying their right but people on here seem to think no tea would take him and his cap hit when in reality there would be multiple teams willing to add him.

I hope so, the old time thinking on this will kill franchises in the long run and cost GMs their jobs. Having this kind of nut of your cap spent on one point of failure is a losing bet. The cap would need to balloon to the 110-120m range before it would be a feasible number. Habs will be working (the cap) with one of their hands tied behind their back until 2027.

Price is not a good goalie anymore. Combined with his bad performance he has one of the worst contracts in the league already. And still plenty of term left

its the same contract king Henrik signed at the same age and they didt have any problems moving forward. Add in the likel hood that the new tv deal and gambling will balloon the cap to a number that yo likely notice a lot less. Not going to be great to see every year but also dont think it will hurt them unless they get a stand out super star from somewhere that demands to get paid but I dont see that happening unless they magically win the lottery this year and get Lafreniere

If I see a price trade, click on the poster and if they aren’t a habs fan I ignore It. It’s not fun to debate the if they don’t have skin in the game

You notice the other fan bases who post them never comment on them so no point

Give me the cream of the crop homer habs on this site, then we got ourselves a live one

Even so, let’s say best case Habs win lotto, draft AL, and he’s a superstar. Cap strapped to field a good roster around them when AL is off his ELC and getting paid.

The difference between Lundqvist and Price is that Price is not playing well at the age of 31. Lundqvist is 37 and a Top 10 goalie in the league right now. But there is obviously room for a bounceback for Price

Here is the money shot - Hank still plays at a high end (borderline elite) level at the end of his contract. Price still hasn’t even hit the quarter pole of his deal.

For sure, but even then, you get a superstar to start producing and the team starts winning then people shut up in general so its just a circle of crap at that point.

Yes, a big circle of crap. That’s about the best way to put it.

Ultimately It just isn’t feasible to take a risk in trading for Price in a high stake game of poker like the NHL contracts and roster constructions are. It be like going all in when you have 2-7 offsuit. You COULD win with Price’s contract...just not a risk you have to take.

Honestly, I’m not trying to be a asshole...but assuming you are a Habs fan, can you honestly say you feel you are ready to compete for a Stanley Cup in the next 2-3 years?

2-3 years? easily. look at their youth group and core group. they can make deep runs. KK would be 21-22, suzuki would be 22-23, domi would be 25-26 . caufield would be 21-22. weber would be 2nd pairing D, but still a solid top 4. im not saying they're gonna be the penguins with crosby malkin, but id say they would be one of the better teams in the atlantic., the future is really bright for this team. and retools are quick nowadays

I respect that, but as an outsider...I think that is a very optimistic outlook. I don’t see a superstar, and frankly you need 1-2 of those to be a cup contender.

I think Weber and Price would need to be playing at Elite levels, and you’d need all of the guys you mentioned to hit their peak.
