Reilly out 2 months

Created by: Sufferingleafsfan
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 13, 2020
Published: Jan. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Once the Leafs are healthy the lines become
Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Johnsson - Tavares - Nylander
SOUP - Kerfoot - Engvall
Moore - Goat - Spezza

Reilly - Holl
Muzzin - Deangelo
Dermott - Barrie
Dillon - Sandin

Anderson
Georgiev

And that works under the Cap too
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Dillon, Brenden ($770,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Brenden Dillon is not exactly the best option in my mind but it seems like the most likely thing that will happen he's competent-ish and I think will end up being another Leafs-Fans whipping boy
SJS
  1. Harpur, Ben
  2. Timashov, Dmytro
  3. 2020 3rd round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
The rationale for the return:
-I think it'll take a pick and a prospect to get Dillon
-Timashov is a young forward who has proven he can play in the NHL, worth a look for the Sharks as the 'prospect' in the trade.
-3rd rounder is self-explanatory.
-Harpur is a throw-in to sweeten a little he's proven he can play NHL minutes on a bad team (Sens 18-19) and if the Sharks are in tank-mode then they do need someone to pick up the minutes that Dillon is currently playing.
2.
TOR
  1. Deangelo, Anthony
  2. Georgiev, Alexandar
Additional Details:
Deangelo and Georgiev fix immediate issues for the Leafs while also being long-term options, this is the kind of trade I think Dubas would really like.
NYR
  1. Bracco, Jeremy
  2. Hollowell, Mac
  3. Kapanen, Kasperi
  4. 2020 4th round pick (VGK)
  5. 2021 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
*2021 2nd becomes 2021 1st if Leafs make the conference final in 2020 playoffs and Deangelo plays all playoff games*

Rangers return rationale
-Hollowell and Bracco, two B prospects to help with their rebuild, and in Bracco they have someone ready for an NHL chance.
-Kapanen is the odd-man-out in the Leafs winger logjam as I see it. Difficult to see him go but an established piece needs to depart in this deal.
-4th is a decent selection for the NYR future
-2nd (outside chance 1st) is a good pick.

I think this is more than a fair send to NYR for Deangelo and Georgiev
3.
TOR
Future considerations. If Ceci plays less than 50% of the NJD remaining games the Leafs retain the pick OR if Ceci resigns in NJ Leafs retain the pick.
    NJD
    1. Ceci, Cody
    2. 2020 7th round pick (SJS)

Deep commentary, I'd say that Kapanen a speedy as hell, proven top-6 winger who kills penalties and consistently puts up points is worth Deangelo even if you want to put a premium on it you could say Kap + Hollowell a very young, promising defence prospect is worth Deangelo.

Georgiev is a backup, a good one but a backup nonetheless and is clearly the odd-man-out in the Rangers crease right now. So a solid backup isn't worth a 4th, a 2nd and Bracco?

I'd say this is a pretty fair trade

deangelo a defenseman on a bad team has more assists and goals than kapanen this year. Kapanen also is not a play creator, he cannot create his own chances unless its a fastbreak. You are essentially trading kapanen and a likely late 4th for deangelo and hollowell a likely late 2nd and bracco for georgiev. Its close but i dont see why the rangers need to make this deal, value wise sure its close enough. but in terms of actual need. they dont need to move georgiev. shesterkin is their goalie of the future and georgiev could be a great option to do a split with shesterkin until he takes over full time. unless you changed hollowell for sandin or liljegren i doubt rangers even counter.
