We Need A Forward

Created by: ForsbergForVezina
Team: 2019-20 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 13, 2020
Published: Jan. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Looking at this team's system reminds me of how badly the Hawks need a quality forward prospect, preferably a winger, in this year's draft. I hear it's very deep and pretty much every team in the lottery should walk away with a really good high end player.

Having done very little research on this year's draft (and I definitely will at some point), I'm interested in seeing who Hawks fans think the team should pick in June. Obviously it's still very early, but we're getting to the point in the season where you can start to tell who can expect to pick in the top 15 and the Hawks will likely be one of those teams. So throw some names out there; forward, defenseman, even goalie, idc. Just looking for a discussion and some insight.

I think you guys will pick somewhere from 7 through 11.

Given the number of foreign players who could go in the top 10, you should have a very good chance to get a franchise player. Assuming you won't have the choice of LaFreniere, Byfield, Perfetti or Drysdale, here's who I think your staff will start looking at:

Tim Stuetzle (LW)
Alexander Holtz (RW)
Braden Schneider (RD)
Jack Quinn (RW)

Personally, I'm hoping my once-Mighty Ducks draft Schneider if Drysdale isn't available and my once-and-future-Kings have a shot at one of the top four listed above.

If we could get him for cheap maybe?

I was more talking about the draft but Kase could be a good fit. Might look really nice on a line with DeBrincat and Strome.

Yeah, I should've clarified. This is assuming the Hawks don't win the lottery.

So you cheer for the Ducks and the Kings?

Yeah, it's a local-against-the-world thing. I tend to support anybody I can watch on tv. Drives my USC and UCLA friends nuts.

So I'm with you that I really haven't done a ton of research into the draft class this year other than hearing for a full year now from just about everyone that's it's pretty deep. I'm a 100% best available in the top roughly 10 picks. (Whatever the "known" talent drop off is) After that tier drop off I tend to have a little more acceptance of best available in a certain position.

With that said, I wouldn't mind Holtz, Lundell, Rossi, Halloway. I don't think Stuetzle will be available. Can't see the other teams letting him slip that far (OTT Twice likely), but who knows. MTL doesn't certainly doesn't need a smaller scoring winger now that they have Caufield. I'd be ok with Schneider if the Hawks progress closer to the Wild Card. He seems like a little bit of a stretch at the current 8 spot, but agree that he would be a nice fit in the long term. Hawks have a lot of smaller Dmen right now. We'll see how Regula and Vlasic continue to develop.

Yeah, I've been checking some of the numbers and reports on these guys. Holtz looks pretty appealing, all he does is score and already has a solid frame. Schneider could be a good pick up too, but unless we're getting a total redo on Byram, I'd rather stay away from defensemen just because there are so many already in the system. Same goes for center, but you could find a guy who can move to the wing I suppose and we still don't know if Strome and Dach will hit their ceilings.

All I know for sure is that I don't really want Askarov. I know he looks amazing, but taking a goalie in the top 10 is super risky and they have more pressing needs. As of right now, he's the one guy I'd be upset about taking.

Yeah, I do think we need another goalie in the system, but 100% agree that you don't need to spend a 1st rounder in order to get a solid goalie prospect. With that said maybe draft a few of them in the later rounds.

I want Raymond most, but would be fine with Holtz, Lundell, or Rossi.

Holtz, Raymond, Stutzle, Rossi we should be looking at IMO. All have skillsets we need.
