Saad and Murphy for Nylander and Ceci

Description
Made under the assumption that Seabrook and Shaw are done. Could probably work even if they aren't with some tweaks but this'll have to do for now.

Trying to value it to help Torontos cap problems and defense. This year they'd save close to $5M in cap space with this deal, giving them more options to be buyers if they want. They would also have Saad and Murphy next year too for a combined cap hit of $6,5M, instead of Nylander for close to $7M. After that they'd still have Murphy for an extra year with a cap hit of $2,5M.

From the Hawks perspective I thought trading for William Nylander and hoping the brothers have chemistry and can help Alex to reach his potential seemed like a good idea in theory. Chicago also needs more skilled offensive forwards IMO. I don't see the Hawks being contenders in 1-2 years anyway so I figured this could work out. Try to build to go on a run when Boq/Dach are on the last year on their ELCs and Saads retention comes off the books.

I originally had Gus for Raddysh and a pick but saw that trade form VGK and liked the return better so I stole it...

Didn't put much effort into the TBL trade. Anyone have any other suggestions go for it. Really want to re-unite the Erie Otters tho. This could be a move for next season, doesn't have to be now.

For next year maybe trade one of DeHaan/Määttä for a cheap-ish RHD? Let Ceci and Holden walk. Sign Mitchell. Re-sign Lehner and Kubalik. Crawford I'm 50/50 on. If he wants to take a cheap 1 or 2 year deal to stay with the Hawks as a backup I'm fine with it, but I don't want to spend more than $2-3M on a backup.

Let me know if this looks alright value wise or if not what needs work.

Can we stop with the Nylander to CHI trades.

Please god stop trading for Nylander.

Haha I will try any hail mary I can to try and justify the Jokiharju for Alex Nylander trade, lol. Which is funny because I don't even think Alex have been that bad, just for what we gave up I was hoping for more.

No but seriously I think we can all agree that the Hawks shouldn't do this. Leafs shouldn't either probably. Was just trying to gauge the value.

I stopped reading once I seen that there was retention involved for CHI. Thats a big red flag for us and would kill the deal regardless of the trade. That would be like paying Nylander $10m+ and he's not worth that. CHI would say No just as much as TOR fans on here would say no.

Ultimately this doesn't work for either side.

Really? That's interesting. Had no idea Marner was more expendable than Nylander for the Leafs.

He is. Out of the 4 highest paid forwards Toronto has, Marner is the most expendable. He doesn’t have a good contract and he’s not a franchise center. So he’s the least untouchable.

Yeah this was more of a line up idea I had and decided to test the value to see if it could happen. I can agree that neither team would probably want to do this. I also don't think the Hawks have any interest in moving Murphy at all.

As for the retention, I personally don't see it being a huge problem to retain some salary on Saad (if they decide to move him) if they could vastly improve the return. But all that also depends on if Seabrook, Shaw, De Haan will play next year.

Yeah very dependant on our LTIR this year and agree could see us holding 1m of Saad deal for the right return though don't think there would be any other retention.

I also agree that Murphy is unlikely to be moved. He has a great cap hit for us and has been our best D man.

Your obsession with him doesn't make him expendable.
