To answer the question; Price would obviously look better in a year or two behind that elite defense in the making (Makar, Byram, Girard and more to come).
On the Montreal point of view why would I trade away Price, keep 3.5M$ and then sign another good goaltender at 6M$? I'll end up paying the same price for Pricer or for a retained salary + a clear cut number 1 (Primeau maybe but even there after his ELC he'll get paid if bonafide number 1).
I don't know the point of view of Colorado on that because I don't follow them.
Carey Price point of view, most likely he'll lift his clause for a cup contender (Which I'm pretty sure nobody will be able to fit his contract under the cap) or to go with Vancouver and even maybe Seattle. He played his junior years in Kennewick... Seattle his obviously going to have cap space from the get go if they don't get too many huge contract in their expansion draft and may be looking for a face for their franchise like Fleury has been from the get go.
Are those trades making sense for anyone? Can't say but the status quo is more than likely.
