Certainly not enough for an NHL goalie, Georgiev. If Ottawa is just going to take a cap dump an get a 2nd rounder for DeMelo (which is reasonable at TDL) shouldn't the Leafs be giving up their worse Dman? Certainly isn't Ceci. It's Barrie.

The Rangers are in enough of a goalie pickle that they would probably do Georgiev for Bracco one for one. Consider the fact that Georgiev would have to be put on waivers to be sent to the AHL, and he will not clear. There is no way they are moving King Henrik and Shesterkin looks to be staying up for good. So maybe there is a better offer out there for the Rangers? Also, DeMelo offers the Leaf no significant upgrade and I cannot see the Sens taking Ceci back. Leafs are talking to a couple of teams, specifically NJ and Anaheim, and that is as per Friedman.

Barrie has played atrocious this year. His positioning & decision making are as bad as ever. He doesn’t track back and defend. Every time he is on the ice the opposition counters with odd man rushes. I did not think he would look worse than Ceci.

My friend, I often find your insights to be well thought out and accurate, however, you tend to have favourites and guys who you just can't get behind. Barrie has not been worse than Ceci, sure sometimes Barrie gets burned when he's being too offensive but much like Gardiner, he contributes so much offense that is makes him a net benefit. Ceci just isn't good. And Georgiev is a backup, hes not been anything more than that. Will he become a starter? Maybe, its hard to say and that is why his value isn't super high.

Barrie just doesn't fit this team at all. He's an offensive defenseman with almost no defensive upside on team that has better players that him to defer to on offense but desperately needs some solid defending. Barrie is good, but IDK why Dubas thought he was the guy they needed. Or maybe they just couldn't get anyone else.

However, on most teams Barrie is like eight million times better than Ceci, and if Ottawa re-signs him that trade would be a steal for them. Tough trade to sell if you're trading to a division rival. You mention poor decision making, but Ceci makes bad decisions literally every time he is on the ice. He's cast in a somewhat better role than Barrie is right now which limits his ineffectiveness on the third pairing, but he still sucks and is making more money while the Leafs are starving for cap space. He's definitely the guy you want to trade if you can.

I think that OTTAWA trade works well. They'll need to take on some salary to stay about the floor with so many players likely being traded away at the deadline.

This ONLY happens if they can't make a contract work with DeMelo though, because he's probably a piece they'd like to keep if they can.

First it's really an CapFriendly thing, that reports that Ceci has been THAT bad. And certainly a CapFriendly thing, that Barrie is good...it's all base on past reputation.
Leafs coaches don't put Barrie or rarely Reilly on the PK. Barrie can't defend and this year his points have dried up too. When he hits UFA, and I know it only takes one team that will overpay him, but IMO he has probably lost more long term money than any "name" UFA" withh is performance. Heck if Gardiner got jut 4.05m X 4 last summer, Barrie should only get a one year show me deal.
