Cup Champs for sure

Created by: CHUG
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 14, 2020
Published: Jan. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would be the lineup if Guentzel was back in the second round. Think the deal for Brodie is fair. May have to add/Overpay for Rakell, but would be worth it too put this lineup together.

This lineup has no weaknesses and provides Sully with so many options.

He’s playing surprisingly good for us right now. But I agree 6 years is absolutely ridiculous. I think pens will ship him off to Seattle in the expansion draft though

So he could score OT winners against the Canadiens.

I feel like thats an overpay for Rakell.

Addison and a 1st is a lot unless you swap Adam Johnson for Jack Johnson

Would have to overpay for Rakell. He is on a very good contract for the next few years and is not really on the block

Youre not wrong there, just makes me wonder why he is your target

Because he would be perfect fit to fill the Guentzel hole and play with Crosby for following seasons if Guentzel sticks with Malkin and he would be affordable. I know its unlikely but the point of this post is to show how good the Penguins could be with only a couple of not entirely unrealistic moves.

I’m kinda hoping Kahun cements his place on the 2nd line, but I wouldn’t mind overpaying for Rakell. When Guentzel comes back I’d keep both on the 1st line.

Guentzel-Crosby-Rakell
Kahun-Malkin-Rust
Simon-McCann-Hornqvist
ZAR-Blueger-Tanev
Lafferty
Dumo-Letang
Johnson-Marino
Petterson-Schultz
Riikola-Ruhwedel
Jarry
Murray

That’s one hell of a lineup while being able to trade chucky and jugs for picks and cap space. The only thing that makes trading Addison risky is that it makes Ruhwedel 3rd pair RD next year unless we can snag a more competent one on the cheap.

Pens will pay them to select him. If he’s still an effective player (which he should be at that point in his contract) it should be an easy sell

That "4th line" has been playing against other teams top lines all season long and has been dominating possession and chipping in offensively so I really don't see the problem with Tanev. If the pens are still competitors in 5 years and he is not playing the way he is right now the contract will look bad, but with the way he has played this season he has earned the benefit of the doubt. He is outscoring players like Gourde, Backlund, Stastny, Carter, Skinner who are all signed for like 2 million more at least while also being a stud defensively and providing tons of energy and a great locker room presence.

I knocked the Tanev signing a lottt, like i'm sure most people did when it happened. But I'm glad we have him now, he's been more than just an energy guy and I can totally see why Rutherford wanted him so bad. Maybe he will be able to talk his brother in to joining the Pens in the offseason to be our 3rd pair RD grin Would be neat.
