McPhee said he doesn't want rental players.. The only option he has is DeAngelo or Gardiner.. Eakin, Holden and Reaves have to go.. The Hurricanes will probably have to trade Holden an picks/prospects to Carolina for Gardiner.

What about Severson, Mike McLeod, and a 4th for your 1st, NJ 2nd, NJ 3rd, and Cody Eakin?

Severson has term and not a terrible cap hit. Eakin is the cap dump to make it work. McLeod is a B level prospect sent your way.

Is this sort of close?

I don't think that's a hard and fast rule. A 2nd and a 3rd (which they have plenty of) isn't a dealbreaker. They should clean up in the summer too with UFAs so term shouldn't be a big concern right now.
