Even if i do think the guys have more to offer then what he have shown. He doesn’t have a lot of value right now. And everyone know around the league that he have attitude issues. He doesn’t like to be coach and he likes to play the way he want. He was like that in Montreal and the same in Phoenix. It seem’s to be the issues in Pittsburgh.
Look at players who where traded for a second round pick last year.

Saad, seemingly, will be linked to both Panarin and Hossa, imo. He was brought back for the Breadman in hopes of being a Hoss-type. Unfortunately, he is ultimately neither. Saying that, I do like this trade as it does free up cap space which will be needed this summer.

They got way to many guys on the team that are already better players. You put him on the LW, but lets be honest.

Now if Chicago swallows 50% of the contract we can have a more reasonable discussion about it. But what isn't going to happen, is the penguins aren't going to give up a ton for a 20 goal winger considering they are kind of common and the asking price for them on the open market is roughly 3.5-4 million a year.

You don't have a clue about what kind of player Saad is. He's a defensive power forward that excels in possession; these players ARE NOT common especially when they score 20+ goals and 45 to 55 points. Fans that have never played the game at a high level look at goals/points to judge a player; a totally wrong approach with any players outside of dynamic scoring wingers.

And you're right, Chicago is not retaining 50% or anything more then $1M....because they don't need to as plenty of teams would love to have Saad on their top 6...especially playoff teams.

If we really want to be depressed, my friend, after the '15 Cup had the Hawks signed Saad to a more appropriate cap hit, they would have had him on the Toews line along with Panarin on the Kane line. I was hoping for a $3-4M aav deal that summer for the Manchild which was a going rate for his type of player. How things may have been different for a couple of more yrars, hey?!

Yeah for sure, but at the same time, agents are not only looking at the current market rate but future rates to negotiate a deal and we all know how bad bowman is at negotiating. Today's Saad's value is about $5M which is why I think the hawks should retain $1M to maxmize his trade value if they decide to trade him this year.

ChiHawk. You are absolutely correct on the player assessment. The other guy, wrong as usual on everything. Saad would be the perfect winger for Crosby alongside Guentzel. Saad is a 5v5 beast and plays a Crosby style of game. He may only be a 20 goal scorer but the "homers" in Pgh seem to forget that the beloved Dupuis and Kunitz were also only 20 goal scorers with a couple rare 20+ goal seasons. and that was from benefiting from playing w 87. I would bet to see Saad getting close to the 30 goal range playing with 87 n 59. He is for sure affordable if they can move Bjugstad and/or let Galchenyuk walk this summer and if they choose to also let Shultz test free agency. I would resign Shultz if he would take a lesser financial deal as he's missed so many games due to injury. Then again, with the emergence of Marino, Shultz might not be needed and they could find a bargain for the 3rd pairing RD spot.

Guys like pharrow are fans but doubt they ever played the game at a high level or deeply understand the game to not understand that puck possession power forwards who play defense are few and far between and critical. Putting up goals is only one part of the game and to the average fan, the only obvious part of the game in which they grade players on. If putting up points was the only thing important for wingers, Toronto would have won a cup the last couple of years.

I view Saad as the poor man's Mark Stone. I'm from Pittsburgh and I can separate being a fan of my team with being a fan of the sport. I feel that's what a lot of the people who comment lack. It's great to have specialists on a team if they can be paired with specialists to balance out the shortcomings. That's why Kessel worked so well in Pgh for the 1st two years. Personally I'm more of a fan on players who play a 200ft game, a complete player. He is attacking me on other posts. Probably because I'm a new member. Can you block people on here?
