Playoffs 2020

Description
No need to rush Sandin or Liljegren into NHL games. They are great insurance if we can’t find a deal but for the price or Pateryn I think we could easy make sure we don’t rush the kids up. But make no mistake they will be playing with the leafs next year so we can see them then.

As for the Johnsson deal I don’t like moving him and some would say Kapanen is the guy to move but I really like the play of Engvall and Kerfoot when they play on LW so I would move him to address our goalie needs and also acquire a former top prospect in Andersson. See if the Marlies can turn him around like they’ve developed other players such as Dermott and Engvall and Gauthiers skating. We also need a better backup then Hutchinson and Georgiev is young enough that we could resign him for a few years more to give Andersen lots of rest in future years.

As always let me know what you think and let’s chat

Awesome comment, real constructive criticism that helps someone to understand why their trade idea is bad in your eyes

I'm not sure Pateryn is the answer. He has played most low leverage minutes in Minnesota, and while he has looked good, that's on the third pair. To expect him to be able to play higher up in the lineup is a big risk.

I think acquiring Lias Andersson is a mistake for what the Rangers are going to want for him. You have made our roster weaker for the time being and the playoff push, not the best idea. If the Leafs want to pick up Georgiev I am betting the Rangers will be waiting until around draft time, no problem for them to carry another goalie this year.

I'm not saying Pateryn is the answer but he is someone I think would help this team and not cost as much as other ideas would. He's a right-shot d man which helps as I'm moving out Ceci. He doesn't have a large cap hit so we can accommodate taking it on. His underlying numbers suggest he does well in shot metrics for and against which is an area Ceci struggles with. I'm not saying Pateryn is a must add but his ability to suppress shots is something that would help the Leafs defense a lot I believe. I think Pateryn would be able to play higher as he has in the past. In the previous two seasons he was playing at a second line level and suppressing shots about 10% better than the league average player according to Hockeyviz.com. An alternative option I like is Mackenzie Weegar for all the same reasons and he's younger but for that reason, Florida probably doesn't deal him.

Regarding adding Georgiev he is the third best goalie they have now, Lundqvist isn't going anywhere and Shesterkin is their goalie of the future. He is to good for the AHL as he has a .932 save percentage and a .926 in the NHL(only two games so far). So Georgiev isn't going to play much with him there and he needs a new deal after this year. So instead of sitting and not playing much, he will want to play and NYR should be motivated to move him now so they can get something and the team acquiring him camn see if he fits with them.

Andersson won't cost as much as they want because everyone knows he doesn't want to play there anymore. So that lowers his value for sure. Johnsson is a valuable player that should be enough to get both but if we have to add a late pick or something minor that's ok with me. It does make us weaker at forward yes but Engvall has proven he is an NHL ready talent and able to produce, Mikheyev might be ready come playoffs and you need to give to get and we need to get a better NHL level backup.
