I think you'd need to give Lilly a few games first to see how he stacks up against Ceci and you'd also need assurance that they can give those PK minutes to someone else as well. If the answer is no to both, then trading Ceci may not be the answer. Yes Ceci is the weakest link on the team, yes he's overpaid, however, he's definitely an NHL player and worth a spot on the bottom pair. If he made 2 million people would say he's a good player.

No one is taking ceci unless we add. I.e. ceci and a 4th to a non playoff team with space for zilch in return. And this would be a great trade for leafs.

Is Ceci that bad? Is it a combination of play and contract? Or is he the release valve for frustrated leaf fans? We all need one

Right now, its close but if you look long term I think it very well could be a slam dunk win by Columbus. Jones didn't receive top defenceman honours at the World Juniors, if my research is correct. Of course that doesn't mean Sandin is better, but what it should say is that Sandin's level of skill is extremely high and perhaps he develops into a legit #1 elite defenceman? If that is his top end ceiling, that means he could be much closer to Jone's level in the future. Now if we look at Nylander vs Anderson, the trade doesn't seem overly appealing at all.

Its the usual mob mentality I think. The general population say he's terrible and that builds steam and now the mob says "He's the worst player in the world" and enough people shouting that means its true. It isn't that is stupid and people should stop paying attention to the loudest people. The reality is, yes he's overpaid, yes he's not overly effective but is he worth a roster spot? I'd say if he was making 2 million or less, maybe even 2.5 or less, there are not a lot of teams that couldn't improve with him playing #6 defenceman minutes. With him having no term, he isn't even a bad pickup. Look at Anahiem for example, why wouldn't they take a flyer on him, pick him up for very little and then sign him to a fair contract. Sure he's not very special but he'd help kill penalties and provide cheap and serviceable depth.

Makes sense. In the games Ive seen him he hasnt been bad, in fact I barely noticed him which is good for a dman. I agree that he gets paid a little too much, but at least it's just for this year. plus contending teams shouldnt be dealing away NHL dmen, unless they get one back

Yeah, I've said it for the whole season, unless we have some other fair deal for a depth RHD, keeping Ceci is the best course of action. If lets say they get a better RHD for Johnsson, then you move Ceci elsewhere to save cap space. But we will have to see where a move like that can be made. I have my doubts that anything will happen.

This rational take based on fact and common sense has NO PLACE in a forum for discussion on Cody Ceci.

The big problem is he's overpaid, if he made half what he makes Leaf fans would have less hate towards him. This is also a fan base who still can't decide how it feels about William Nylander, so let's not ask for miracles.
