While I like the move, I do think this is much too big a move for our GM to make mid-season. As is Dubas would be too scared to make such a deal, especially because he needs a quality winger to play with Tavares, and if you're putting Marner with Matthews, and taking 2 other options away, what would you be left with? Donato is not a top-6, at least not yet. So Tavares is now skating with Engvall and Johnsson? I just cannot see that happen, or as big a deal as this, until after the season is over when the Leafs probably once again cannot make it past the first round of the playoffs.

When is everyone going to understand that NYLANDER ISN'T GOING AWAY??

And I say that as someone who traded him for Toffoli, Martinez, Campbell, Clifford and a 2nd rounder in an Armchair GM team like 3 months ago...
And I say that as someone who didn't like Nylander until a month or so ago

I don't think fear has anything to do with why Dubas wouldn't do this. He's trading the best player in the deal, Dumba is the 2nd best RHD in Minnesota. He's good sure, but he's not a #1 and at this point I don't think its reasonable to expect him to be much more than what he's shown so far. Nylander on the other hand is looking like a 35 goal scorer with 70 points and if he goes on a heater, he could be closer to 80 points. The rest of this trade is just whatever. No thanks.

It takes a while for the mob to come around on players. Nylander is the best asset in this trade, and Kapanen is probably the 3rd best asset in the trade. Doesn't make any sense for TO to do this.

Taking every variable into consideration, I would rank the pieces like this: 1) Nylander 2) Dumba 3) Brodin 4) Kapanen with Donato and Ceci thrown in as positional needs.

TO has no need for Brodin who is just a depth defensive defenceman. When the team is healthy where would he even play? Kapanen is a top 6 forward on most teams, Brodin is no higher than 2nd pair on any team. Perhaps he'd be top pair in Montreal but that is because they don't have any LHD. Unfortunately your chance at moving Dumba for a return this big, was lost last summer.

Brodin is MUCH better than you realize! He’s an amazing skater, a one-man breakout machine, a terrific defender, and can easily log #1 minutes on the left or right side. He is a completely underrated and under appreciated player...even by some Wild fans who only notice he doesn’t score much. Everything else about his game is exceptional.
IF the Leafs acquired Brodin, they could comfortably move Muzzin this summer. Brodin is younger and better than Muzzin and I am a Muzzin fan.

I am not going to argue about this, Nylander is better than Dumba and Dumba's stock is falling, TO doesn't need Brodin, even if Muzzin walks because they have Dermott and Sandin and above them Rielly. Their left side is set. There is no trade here. As I mentioned you may have had an opportunity to get Nylander in the summer or last year but right now you don't have the assets required to get him.

Fair enough - Brodin doesn’t fit a need for the Leafs. If you and others learned something about how very, very good Brodin is from this thread...then that’s good enough for me.

Yeah I don't want to take away from him, it just isn't at all a need.
