I know nothing of those guys you're giving the Blues in return. That being said, I might do this anyway.

Seems a little redundant, I bet Sanford goes as a throw in for a rental like Toffoli

Djoos is a smooth skating LHD with good hands. He was on the 3rd pairing the year before you guys won it all (congrats by the way). Boyd is a 3rd / 4th line wing that a lot of Caps fans (not me though) like a bunch. He hustles well and has some skill. He has played on the 3rd line a handful of times but mostly would be a 4th liner. They both can't get into the line up because the Caps have solved (mostly) their bottom pair and 4th line issues from last year externally.

Are the Blues wanting another winger possibly?

They’d be looking for a top-6 quality guy. I feel like they’ve got plenty depth forwards.

Nobody minds bringing Sanford back, but isn't this an overpayment?

Same points/game as Boyd this year. One year younger. Almost twice the cap hit. Could probably pull off a one for one if STL wants the cap space.

Djoos is on nobody's dream penalty kill, but he's good with the puck. https://www.nhl.com/capitals/video/djoos-great-moves-lead-to-goal/t-277437440/c-53743603

Again, you could probably get Sanford for him, one for one.

But since Boyd and Djoos have cleared waivers this year, they kinda have no cap hit and provide good depth. Seems more likely the cap-strapped Caps would move Leipsic or even Panik

edit: I don't think Panik is as good at offense as Toffoli. One 40+ point season is not as many as three of them. But Panik hits more, is better defensively, can kill penalties, and is almost as good as Toffoli, so if STL is looking to upgrade its top six wings, Panik is someone who can do okay on a 2nd line, either side, even if he doesn't always get that role.

Maybe. I don't really like Boyd and like Sanford's size and he was doing pretty good here before we traded him, that's all. I would like if we could get him for Panik yes.

Blues have no use for Boyd, you can keep that. A Sanford-for-Djoos trade is something I totally would have done a year ago at this time, but for now I'd say nah. Not a bad offer or anything, but nah.

You just summed up Sanford. Your proposed trade thus seems to be swapping the same guy plus giving the Note Djoos. Like @STLBlues17 said, that appears a bit redundant for the Caps, and if Djoos is decent, it would strike me as a losing proposal for the Caps. Not sure that really helps Washington.

Yeah. Probably better for both sides to just do Sanford for Panik. The Blues get a wing that's got a few years of top six experience, and the Caps get more total depth, rather than less. WSH does have extra LHD, but that's a good problem to have.

Okay. Have fun bidding on Toffoli, who averages ten more points a year than Panik, but isn't as good defensively.
