Description
Jensen isn't a great fit for WSH, so send him and Johansen to EDM since Holland probably likes Jensen from his DET days. Johansen is probably only worth a 3rd or 4th rounder alone so maybe get a 2nd rounder for the combo. Jensen hasn't been that good, but his contract is still pretty good. Let Holtby walk and have copley be backup/Expansion exposed. Could sign a vet backup if need be. I thought about trading Panik, but I think he will mesh better over the rest of the year into next. Trading him would get no value in return now.

I like it. I think Seig and Leipy can be had for a bit less though. And if Gudas likes it here, I think that contract is right on. I think Leason and Alexeyev would be better served to stay in Hershey for another year though. I have been on the 'trade Jensen' thing myself for most of the season. I admit, he had a really good game against Carolina on Monday. If he could just keep that consistently, there would be no need to move him, in my opinion.

Not a chance EDM is interested in 2 more defensemen, and they certainly won't be giving up a 2nd to get them. Edmonton has 10 NHL-level defensemen already signed for next year, they need to be sending some out, not getting more.

I kinda agree with you, but if Jensen improves and stays, then idk how Gudas would fit in. Ferhervary will be ready for next year, and Alexyev soon there after. It would be a tricky situation because keeping Jensen and letting Gudas walk opens $1M in cap space, and having a light roster like right now would create around $5M in cap space with my roster. I agree that Seigs could be had for less on a 2 year deal, but I'd like to lock him up longer. I don't think the caps can keep holtby or make a big move this offseason with Ovi and more importantly Vrana up next year. Vrana could get a huge pay bump (3.35 to 7+??)

I for sure would want Gudas over Jensen (if we can move him out) and those two prospects will cause a log jam next year or the year after you're right.

By the way, as a side note, I know people, (myself included) love Vrana but Bmac better make sure he doesn't pay V more than the 6.6 million per year that Pastrnak in Boston is getting. Caps should have drafted Pasta but, oh well...

He is getting more than Pasternak. 6 Years for V would EASILY be over 6.6 imo. Just all timing. At least the caps don't have a Backes contract on their books... I really hope the caps can lock him up for 6+ years. Like an 7 x 7 would be amazing but i don't think that would be enough.

Yes maybe timing would be the thing, I get it but Pasta is gonna put in what, 60 goals? Should V, who will get what 35 goals, earn more?

Should obviously not, but the comparables for Vrana will be more recent deals. The same arguments can be said for Pasta, MacKinnon, Draisaitl, etc...
