Wishful Thinking

Description
Haters, first obvious question will be why would NYI do this trade while in the middle of the playoff and seeding race. Answer, we all know what Trotz did with Kempny on way to the '15 Cup. Same thing could make Leddy available in a trade back to Chicago (yes, still seething about that one!). This defense addition would actually help the Hawks, plus Ledds is durable. Saad, as has been mentioned on these boards, is a pretty solid 2-way forward. NYI has cap space to handle his hit plus pay for Barzal and prolly could also sign Gus as well. No idea what will wind up happening with Chicago's cap situation (Strome, Kubalik, goalies, injured guys, etc...). Their d is still a mess and Keith really isn't a #1 anymore.

Remember all, this is an armchair roster!

I don't know if I would do this as an Isles fan, although I think the value favors them.

We lost Pelech for the season, so right now Leddy is our 1LD. Gustafsson is not going to replace him in that way. Brassard is definitely not as good as Saad, but he can play center and we have no depth at center in the organization.

I would do Leddy for Saad straight up in the off-season.

I dont see how any blackhawks fan would want to do this. The blackhawks arent going to trade Saad unless the value blows them away, which this does not. Just because Leddy is effectively the 1LHD because of injury doesn't mean thats what his value is. Also, Gus > Brassard and Brassard isnt someone the blackhawks should think about re-signing. All in all, if either of these two get traded, its because Bowman realizes that the Hawks arent competing this year and its going to be for picks and young players/prospects

You bet. Thanks for the civility, too. Like I said citing the Caps example, Kempny wound up being paired with Carlson in 2015. While Gustafsson may not be as established right now as Leddy, he may just need BT. You know I am looking at this from a Hawks perspective. With Saad currently on IR, their forward group has been okay with the team winning a bit, thus perhaps making him expendable. Everyone knows Chicago is a non-playoff club and still needs help in their own zone. Wishful thinking anyways!

With an eye on the future, I really wouldn't expect the Hawks to sign either Gustafsson or Brassard. They are just pending free agent bodies in this case. Leddy had been on the top pair with the Isles im the past and certainly still has a flair for the dramatic -- one man rush ability! He would be an offensive update to Keith at this juncture, imo. Why not take this chance? They have nothing to lose.

Yeah, I mean i'd probably do it for Leddy plus a 1st maybe. I wouldn't trade for a veteran rental with no plans to resign him unless we were taking the cap hit in exchange for us getting some assets back. And Leddys cap hit for his stats isnt too attractive, so the excess value from Saad + Gus = their late first if they are seriously contending for a cup this year. Idk, I just don't see the Isles as a good fit for Saad in general, but Gus probably fits what theyre looking for right now.
