Isles cant afford him his next contract. He’ll probably get between 4.5-5.5 mill this summer. Danault contract makes him an attractive target

Personally, I'd take that if I was Bergevin but it's not the time for it, if one of the young guys proved they could be a reliable 2C then you make this deal but until KK, or Suzuki reach that next level you cant leave Domi out there as your bonafide #1C, would help tank the season though.

Hanzal got a prospect ,1st and a 2nd coming back off his 2nd injury in 12 months and with a bad contract because it was in a similar market with few Centers available

Danault has a 3m cap and is healthy as an ox . the 6'1 Center is 4th in NHL faceoff Wins and Draws consistently improving every year since CHI gave him up for nothing but junk.

Given that this years UFA pool is primarily D with 30 D of note looking for deals but few and far between are the Centers and Goalies.
Given that this year the west has all but STL in their top 3 positions in each conference just 2-4 points from 3 teams battling for Wildcard spots. In the east FLA is 3 points out of taking TML spot with 2 games in hand.

There's a ton of teams who desperately need a bulk faceoff center at a 55% win rate who can run their Penalty Kill and 2nd PP .
Danaults on pace for another 54 point season as a defensive shut down center and a solid #2 or #3 on a playoff contender

And Strome is much younger (over 4 years younger) and more upside then Danault, can't imagine the haul the Hawks could get for Strome then.

Why would you want to get rid of strome?

Just spit balling. I'm not a huge fan of his game style but a lot of fans and of course the Hawks are so very doubtful he would be going anywhere. If the Hawks somehow got the #2 pick in the lottery and drafted Byfield, well in that case I could definitely see Strome being traded given that they now have Dach and Byfield is better then all 3. smile
