Ottawa says no thanks, no way a rebuilding team trades one of their best prospects

Norris is 3rd possibly 4th on their C depth chart and could drop again if they draft another C with one of their 2 top 6 picks.

Untrue at this point. Kid is 20 and leading the AHL team in scoring. An AHL team that has been riddled with injuries and call-ups and still tops in the division. It's more than likely he gets a couple of games after the TDL. I'd say he's #2 behind Logan Brown in terms C prospects. If Ottawa does end up with Byfield, Rossi or Perfetti, he shifts to that #3 C spot, at worst, to start the season.

Ottawa has no interest in trading prospects. UFA's, sure. Prospects, no.

I retort with Pageau for Gagner, Cooper/Yamamoto and a 2nd in 2020 with team performance conditions (turns into a 1st if EDM reaches the WCF).

I dont think OTT would trade Norris for the EDMs 1st in 2020 nevermind giving you JGP and taking on Gagner! Norris has #2 centre written all over him and he is only 20!

Norris is 1st because Brown and Batherson have both been called up. They are both easily ahead of him. And depending on how you see Shane Pinto he may be ahead of Norris as well. When you factor that in with them currently having 5 picks in the first 2 rounds in 2020, 2 of them guaranteed top 9 right now he might fall even further.

Batherson is a RW. Brown is lacking in defensive consistency and determination at the NHL level and is, in my opinion, barely an NHL player right now until he can figure what he wants. Pinto, despite having a hell of a WJC, is still in college and will continue to be so until after next year. Norris is playing top minutes in the AHL and is leading the team in scoring as a 20 year old. That doesn't always transition well to NHL level but its still impressive. He'll get a look in the NHL after the deadline. I don't see him falling further than #3 on the C depth chart after the draft.

Sure one of the top picks Ottawa uses come the 2020 draft is going to be a centre, no doubt. But, that doesn't mean Ottawa will suddenly just give away prospects. It's nice to have the cupboards stacked when the time comes to compete for the Cup. Point is Ottawa won't trade prospects with a decent value at this point in time.

Batherson is a natural C. He’s playing wing because they have JGP and White ( who is actually a natural winger) playing the top 2 C right now. But with them more than likely losing JGP and possibly losing Tierney and Ennis, Batherson will be the #1C in Ottawa. Oh and he’s not leading the Sens in scoring in the AHL, Batherson is with 41 points in 33 games vs Norris 38 in 39. Also brown has 19 points in 14 games. But hey if you’re so high on Norris I’d be okay with swapping him out for Batherson or Brown. I’d even add Puljujarvi and drop both picks down a round.

Ottawa isn't trading prospects.
