As a canucks fan I will say yes, obviously.

However, taking the bias away, this trade is heavily imbalanced and despite the drastic over-evaluation by many detroit fans of his worth, this is too far on the other end of the spectrum.

Vancouver adds either a B prospect or a 2nd rnd pick

I know I've said this to you before It's not all about overvaluing AA. DETROIT DOESN'T HAVE TO TRADE HIM! He isn't a UFA for 2 more seasons. So why trade him at his lowest point it just doesn't make sense. You know damn well you would do the same thing if you were in this situation. Plus in an interview on Friday Yzerman said "It doesn't make sense to trade any assets at this point and I'm going to continue the rebuild through the draft and free agency. You can watch the interview on Fox Sports Detroit's site.

I do think Detroit does declines quite easily though.

Yzerman set the value at a 2nd and B prospect, so I overvalued nothing, just like I told everyone else, you can take what yzerman set ie the trade that I said, or move on and not acquire him. He's a RFA and we don't have to deal him. So take your gross overpayment and turn it sideways and shove it way up there

Yeah, the trade is way out of balance for VAN. I could see something like this working though:

VAN receives AA, 2020 4th round pick
DET receives Sven Baertschi, Adam Gaudette, 2020 3rd, 2021 2nd.

The money for this season is about even (3mm for AA, 3.6mm+916k for Baertschi+Gaudette in the NHL, or 2.5mm+916k for them with Sven in the AHL). The extra pick is to take over the Baertschi contract, which will help cover most of the recapture penalty for Lou.

But, I don't think VAN should do it. They have to pay AA after this season, and then the following season they'll have to pay Pettersson and Hughes (which at this pace both are going to command high dollar contracts), then Brock the following year (obviously another high dollar contract), with a very shallow prospect pool still (though definitely gaining steam). They'll also need money to bulk up the d-core over the next few years.

Demko and DiPietro are far above a B prospect - they will both be starting goalies one day. Demko possibly elite.

Woo is probably a B+ prospect.

You can have Lind and a 2nd.

You're right, they don't need to trade him. However risk players are not something teams overpay for. You either cling to him forever (not necessarily a bad option) or recognize that the trades out there are fantasy returns.

Horrible trade for Detroit. Detroit happily keep AA if this is all other teams are offering. They can look elsewhere for a top 5 fastest player in the league with 30 goals on his resume.

Yeah but we aren't close to that yet. You know damn well if this was a player on your favorite team in this situation you wouldn't be selling as low as his value is now.

i know. and vancouver is my favorite team which makes negotiating here a bit more realistic. i get the situation you guys are in, but soon enough it will need to be worth evaluating if this is just a season low or a downward trend from here on out. if AA doesn't work next year he should be traded. Not this year.

I completely agree with that. Yzerman's interview where he mentioned not trading assets I pretty sure he is referring to AA he is the only good player Detroit has on the market. I was thinking that it might Yzerman's way of letting other teams know the offers for AA aren't enough to move him.
