I would be willing to give Pageau a shot, but I've seen a lot of MASSIVE overpays on this site, overestimating Pageau as some kind of possibly 1st line, 70 point player. Pageau is an awesome defensive, top-6 forward but I'm not overpaying for him.

Additional Details:

The main value is in the picks. The Callahan for Ladd deal can be easily removed, if you just want JPG for MDC and a 1st and a 2nd (which is already a hefty price to pay for a player like Pageau, considering he is risky and may end up being a rental player). MDC, to us, is completely worthless and desperately needs a change of scenery to save his career, and Ladd... he's Ladd. Callahan will be put on LTIR and it frees us up some room to sign Barzal, Pulock and Toews long term.

I like the idea of taking Callahan's contract from them so we can lower Pageau's trade value, but the Sens won't take Ladd's contract in that deal.

Not sure OTT would want to give up the LTIR. Not a guarantee Ladd gets on there, though I think Lou will try...

Like the other two commenters, I don't know what Ottawa would do with this proposal (or its offshoot you also outline), but it certainly is worth trying.

Trading Callahan. It's meaningless for cap purposes. Why even suggest him in a trade? Ladd has a NMC. You really think he going to waive it go from a playoff, maybe Cup contender to a non playoff team?
