Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2020
Published: Jan. 16, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Schultz, Bjugstad, and Galchenyuk don't fit. Let's add some guys that do.
An additional thought is that the deals proposed don't adversely affect the PENS ability to resign all of the free agents next year.
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Schultz, Justin
Additional Details:
Winnipeg needs D-men. RD that can move the puck are rare which is why I think Schultz will go for a 2nd or 3rd if GMJR shops him.
2.
PIT
  1. Bogosian, Zach
Additional Details:
Bogosian wants out. Can fit as 2nd or 3rd RD pair guy for the year. Pens get to audition him for maybe next year at a lower cost...but probably let him go as a FA
BUF
  1. Galchenyuk, Alex
Additional Details:
Galchenyuk moves on as a fresh start.
3.
PIT
  1. Lewis, Trevor
Additional Details:
Add depth. can play 3rd line or 4th. Is fast. Good penalty killer.
LAK
  1. 2020 6th round pick (PIT)
4.
PIT
  1. Del Zotto, Michael
Additional Details:
Including this move because I think Del Zotto would be an upgrade over Riikola at this point. I think he would be a good add for playoff run.
ANA
  1. 2021 7th round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
The deal gives Anaheim their 7th rounder back.
5.
NJD
  1. Bjugstad, Nick
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (PIT)

I don't think Del zotto would be an upgrade over like anyone

I know Galchenyuk needs to be moved, but Bogo straight up is way too much of an undersell.

I like Coleman but he's probably worth more than that. Bogosian is injury prone and I don't think we need more of that lol. I'd almost give Schultz another year maybe he'll be a bit cheaper. It'll give our guys another year to progress and maybe Schultz will be worth mord next year? Del zotto, I worry about a guy that gets traded that much and had 3 teams last year. I agree he's not better than anyone we have

I 100% agree you could easily get more for chucky plus i would probably rather have chad in their instead of zach.

Justin Schultz has turned into a great defensive player in Pittsburgh. On top of that he is our B plan (sometimes A plan) PP QB if anything were to happen to an injury prone Letang. Trading him prior to this year's playoffs would be a mistake and would lessen our depth on the right side. Even if he walks in free agency I still feel he provides more value through the playoffs this year then what he could get at the trade deadline. Only move I think would make sense would be to get back a defenseman who is deemed an upgrade with one additional year of term (gotta stay away from anyone with more term due to the expansion draft).

Probably because he’s too injury prone. But he was playing well at the beginning of the season, no?

Actually, wouldn't injury prone make him fit perfectly with the Pens? Looking at games missed by Crosby, Malkin, Letang, etc... The only guy that didn't miss games got the boot this summer (Kessel). Ability to stay healthy seems to be the 'doesn't fit" criteria...
