Hard no. Orlov is one of the most underrated defensemen in the league. He's a top pair beast. Pionk and Sbisa are very very very bad. I do want Perreault though, but not at the price of Orlov.

The Capitals 4th line has been great but the underwhelming production of the 3rd line is somewhat alarming. Panik does not seem to fit the system and Hagelins contributions are predominantly on the Penalty Kill. Eller is having a solid season with terribly inconsistent linemates. There are plenty of LHD in the system to replace Orlov long-term but RHD depth is lacking after Carlson. Perreault should add offense to the 3rd line and Travis Boyd's skillset is better suited for 3rd line if he will ever be a full time NHLer.

I don't see how Orlov is underrated. He is extremely durable which is great, however his cap hit is over 5 million and he has 6 goals in his last 130 games. Siegenthaler, Alexeyev, Fehervary are all left shooting defenseman which I think makes Orlov and his cap hit expendable especially if they have any intention at all of keeping Holtby.

We don't have Orlov for the goals, we have him for his amazing shut down ability against other teams top players, while putting up 30+ points. He's amazing. Kempny is much more expendable as he's lost a step and Siegenthaler is better than him now.

Also, Holtby isn't coming back. He isn't great anymore and won't be worth the price tag. Samsonov is the future.

Look at Panik's game log. He was injured early. he had two points in like his first twenty games, and played a lot on the 4th line in that time while Boyd and Hathaway took turns at 3R. Now Panik is doing okay at 3R and is looking like his usual, boring, 30-point, defensively-responsible self.

That's not to say that Washington won't hold a slow start against him and let him go cheaply, but they aren't going to give up Orlov to move him. That's crazytown.

I still prefer Kempny over Orlov considering he is half the cap hit, only has 5 points fewer in 10 less games and has a slightly better +/- and much better shooting %. Left side defenders are a strength of the farm system and Siegenthaler, Alexeyev and Fehervary are potential top 4 replacements eventually leaving Orlov or Kempny on the 3rd pair.

Orlov is just way way way better than Kempny, it isn't worth dropping him just because Kempny is cheaper. Orlov's possession numbers are elite, that's why we have him. Kempny's career high is 25 points, Orlov is about to surpass that number for the 5th time in his career. Orlov is better than Kempny at both ends of the ice. No need to worry about money, will have plenty once Holtby walks.
