Description
The scary thing is, that with our easy schedule the back half of this season, this team could pretend to be a competitor for the wild card spot, which would normally be okay, but if we decide to spend some of our assets to improve at the trade deadline, it might just be a huge waste. Dont get me wrong, making the playoffs would be huge experience for our young guys and it would show that this is still a semi competitive market, but especially with this draft, I dont want to get shafted out of the playoffs and end up with a 13 or 14 spot draft pick. Anything in the top 8 or 9 really would be huge for the future, as would making the playoffs with experience, theres just that scary dead zone that you dont want to land in.
Anyway, I think these are the optimal lines to roll if we want to actually compete once Strome and Saad are back, which it sounds like they could be close after the road trip. Nylander has looked a lot better these last 3 games after being scratched, hopefully he found out how to actually play the game and be a successful middle six player. I think Caggiula and Dach could really drive play for him and let him succeed. I also think Carpenter has looked out of place, and Highmore hasnt been anything special. Those 2 probably rotate in with sikura on the bottom line.

I also think once strome and saad are back the lineup could switch around, like how it was 12-77-17 before he got injured, and then kampf could center the 3rd line with saad and caggs, something like that, but this would be how I would start it out

If you can somehow get into the 2nd wildcard spot I wouldn't put making the final as impossible. The Pacific is a joke, whoever finishes in the 1st wildcard spot is going to be the luckiest non contender in the league!

Okay, so I know I already made a similar response on the other thread. So, in my eyes, nylander doesn’t really get helped by anyone short of toews, Saad, or Kane. As you said, nylander needs someone to drive play for him. However, Dach and Caggiula don’t do that. Neither do on their own even. Caggiula is just a wicked energy player, and I believe there’s a difference between that and driving play. Dach, meanwhile, is solely reliant on players making him better. He doesn’t have the speed or the physical style to drive play. He has hands, which was never a doubt, but slow feet get your fast hands no where. So, for now, I’ll admit I don’t know what’s been for nylander. Maybe a time machine back to before the trade???

As for the remaining schedule, I have no doubt that it will tend to make the team look like a pretender. The team is putting forth good efforts, but it always ends up in vain when a three game win streak is followed three losses in a row. Ergo, I think this team is still in denial. Then again, I’m pretty if a hawks fan doesn’t admit that, they just don’t know enough about hockey.

I think what you said about Nylander was true before, but if he really is what he has shown the last couple of games I think he's in a good spot to be a good middle six winger. He has been aggressive, he has been smart, and he has used his speed. Hopefully he continues to do that so this trade isn't a 1 for 0 and its more of a 1 for 0.67

That’s fair, and at his core, he is bursting with talent and potential, but every time I think he’s getting it going, he makes me think he’s just too lazy to accomplish it. 1 for 0.67 would be great, but it sucks to think it didn’t even need to happen at all and had no logic behind it anyway.
