    Not to mention fleecing Hyman.....

    Also, why would Engvall ( 0,52 PPG ) take that if Mikheyev ( 0,59 PPG ) is getting 3 x 2,9M

The reality is there is no cap for Muzzin. I think you have squeezed some RFAs just to get Muzzin

He squeezed and overpaid at the same time.....i think Cap will be higher also, 2020/2021 like 2,5M+ to 84M and 2021/2022 with 3M+ to 87M....then first Season after SEA follows with 2022/2023 6M+.....hopefully

I am not sure Muzzin is worth keeping then. He's 31 so in all likelihood, his best days are behind him, still great but he's not going to get better than he's been, so giving him a raise for what he did in the past but won't replicate is a mistake. I am hoping he would be interested in a 3 year 15 million dollar contract. Or 16 for 4 maybe even 20 for 5 would be worthwhile.

if it were up to me I'd rather sign an RHD of similar value instead of Muzzin. Can't hold Sandin back on the bottom pair for the next 2-3 years

Since the Nhl and the Nhlpa are still negotiating the next cba, Bettman was pretty clear that the cap would increase in any significant way. So if it goes up this off season we are talking about a millions or 1,5 millions. The Nhl use that as leverage over the players. The cap will increase in significant way if the nhl and nhlpa get a agreement before the 2021-2022 season. Last year all major sport have shown increases around 5 % of their value accept Nhl who supposedly didn’t increase by any significant marge. The increase value have a direct impact on salary cap since the owner and olayers are supposed to be in a partnership where each side get equally parts

    One word, escrow.

Players getting more money these days means more escrow back to owners.

realistically you won't get someone quite as good as muzzin in FA, but I'd rather give sandin those minutes. also would be open to a trade with one of kapanen/johnsson, with picks and prospects, for a top4 RHD

Yea the cap rise, but it doesn't just go to Muzzin or few players. All unsigned players will want a bigger piece. In the two years of Vegas, which affects the cap, the cap has risen 6.5m. So unless the NHL can miraculously find a new revenue stream (maybe gambling), it's a four percent raise a year. Heck the season is went up just about 3.25%

Muzzin is still the only one ( with honorable mention of Dermott ) thats playing proper D, so excelling in his own zone which should be prior task of any Dman. Sandin is good but hes not Dahlin. Also he will need a complement partner in the future of the Muzzin type ( lets say Liljegren is the kid in the making for that tho he will lack size ). Having Sandin and Liljegren on 3rd Pair for next two years is called sweet worries, will spare some minutes for the first two Pairs without losing any performance.

I would kill for Muzzin to be 28y at the moment, but hes still doable next year i think at 4 x 5M and even if his best years are supposedlly behind him he would be still only A Level D man on the Team. That leaves you two top Pair D man and a Backup short to make an impact on the stats where TML is sucking for years now ( im like a broken record for two years about those ) and which will bring the Team closer to overcome First Round.

But before getting more money and giving more escrow to the owner. The leagues must increase is value. Is the value stay still they can increase salary cap that make absolutely no sense

Im building my theory on previous Seasons and Expansion Draft 2017, as i said, just guessing didnt went into percentages :

    2015/2016............71,4M.......+1,6M
    2016/2017.............73M.........+2M
    Expansion draft 2017
    2017/2018.............75M.........4,5M
    2018/2019............79,5M........+2M
    2019/2020............81,5M..........+2,5M
    2020/2021.............84M............+3M
    Expansion Draft 2021
    2021/2022.............87M............+6M
    2022/2023.............93M

Based on what ? He will be 32y old goalie with 2,8 GAA ( thanks to brilliant years-long TML strategy regarding the D ), if anyone will be that stupid to give him 9M into his 40ies, well....good luck to them then.....in my books the OP is on the spot tho it will be 4 years.
