Larsson is not worth Kapanen. Larsson is an upgrade over just Ceci, he would still be bottom pair in TO while Kapanen would be their top RW by a lightyear.

Kapanen is a 40pt player tho. Hes a 5-8th best forward on a good team

Using points to evaluate someone is deeply flawed. Kapanen has elite speed and is a perfect fit on McDavid's wing. He's a top-6 on almost every team in the league, he doesn't get the points because Toronto has Marner and Nylander ahead of him.

Larsson is not going to help Toronto. They might consider Kapanen for Bear.

He's a 40 point player on the 3rd line and 2nd pp on TO. Also he was on pace for 50 points 3 games ago so if he goes on a little heater he could be back to that pace soon enough. Everyone on this site like to say "Defenceman A" would be the best right handed defenceman on the Leafs (almost always that isn't the case but that is besides the point) and use that argument to inflate his price a tonne. If you do that, you have to do the same thing for Kapanen and in Edmonton he's now the top winger on the squad and that can't be debated.

Kapanen is a top 6 winger on almost every team. Even very good teams. Point me to a team that has better top 2 right wingers than Marner and Nylander.

Edmonton can't afford Kapanen, they don't have anything they can afford to part with that will make it worthwhile.

He and Nurse have the same cap hit. I'd consider a one-for-one there.

Nothing they should part with. I'd be asking a hefty price if I was trading a guy who they would put on their top line immediately. The best piece they have that I would want is Bouchard, (I know that is a huge price for Kapanen), and they shouldn't move him. Bear is okay but I haven't seen enough to warrant a 1 for 1 for Kap and Larsson legit isn't good. He's not much better than Ceci and if I am moving a guy who scores 20 + goals and 40+ points on the 3rd line (There are many 2nd liners who don't score that many points) I am going to want more than a small upgrade over Ceci.

Nurse is RFA after this season and is apparently going to ask for an insane contract. Some say almost 7 million and he is not worth close to that. No thanks.

It actually would be a smart plan for Edmonton but I am not sure another 6+ million dollar forward is a great plan for TO lol.

As I mentioned, I don't think Edmonton can pay the price it would take to move him. They have very limited pieces to move. Larsson sucks, Bear is pretty good but I am not sure he alone is worth Kapanen, and their other RHD defenceman are either worse or should be pieces they just don't move. To think Kapanen, a 23 year old who scores 20 goals and 40+ points from a 3rd line (That is actually 2nd liner production) is worth a lot more than garbage.

Yah your right, leafs are so good defensively, they are at the bottom of the league. If it were not for Andersson they would be dead last. No way Larsson would help out the leafs. Move on from this trade. Keep trying the Dumba for junk trade, it should work out. Oilers need a left wing anyways as right wing is set.

Larsson isn't good. He never has been. You guys are on board for moving him because when he was out it didn't change a thing, he is just a bottom pair defenceman. Keep him.

Also Edmonton isn't exactly a defensive stalwart of a team.

I totally would keep him if I am GM, saying he is not good is crap, he is not good with the Oilers system, he is always on team Sweden and oilers cant figure out the proper way to play him. He is very hard to play against and will punish opposing players. Perfect for playoffs! If I am Oilers Bouchard plays another year in AHL and Larrson, Bear, Benning play on my team next year. Benning is fantastic.

Yah the difference is, you have a great goalie, while we have brutal goalies. DIFFERENCE!!! You dont allow the 1st goal on the first shot of the game 30 times over the past couple years. You guys would be last place if it were not for your goalie

All the anger from Leafs fan has distracted everybody from that awful MIN trade. Why on earth would Edmonton give up a 22-year-old 1st-pairing defenseman + two first round picks for a 25-year-old 2nd-pairing defenseman??

Even still:

Toronto has allowed the 6th most goals in the league.
Edmonton has allowed the 13th most goals in the league.

Yes because we have way better defense and in a couple years will be a top D team in the league. Toronto has all winger prospects, edmonton as all D prospects. I will take D prospects for the future first.

Yes, you are right, horrible trade for Oilers. We need unfortunately to have a little more patience. We are still 2 years away

Some of Edmonton's D will inevitably be traded for wingers anyhow - maybe even some of the young players. The Oilers have 10 defensemen under team control next year who are subject to waiver claims and can't be sent down without being exposed, since the team can only carry 7 I think we'll see some trades rather than face losing them for nothing.

LHD:

Klefbom
Nurse
Russell
Jones
Lagesson

RHD:

Bear
Larsson
Bouchard*
Benning
Persson

*Bouchard won't have to pass through waivers, but he will most likely be on the NHL team which complicates the handling of older players who aren't waivers exempt.

My guess is we see Russell, Benning and Persson moved for forwards.
