After the Allstar break

Created by: Couvy
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 17, 2020
Published: Jan. 17, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My sense is that they will try to preserve the extra year of entry level for sandman. This Saturday will mark game 9 for him, so one more after that and it eats up the first year of his ELC. Muzz expected to be back so we'll see what happens. If another injury occurs on D prior to the playoffs it is what it is and they'll have no choice but to bring him back.

Agreed. He's going to be a great player, but he still needs work. The first period last night was the most he's struggled in any of his games this year. I think it would be different if Marincin hadn't stepped in and played well. Lots of Marincin haters out there, and I used to be one of them, but he's been really solid since Muzzin went out. He and Barrie have really looked good together.

If his ELC happens to be preserved, it will not be a conscious decision by Dubas to have that happen. The Leafs are fighting for a playoff spot, they aren't going to make the team worse just to try and save a bit of money in a few years. In a perfect scenario, the ELC slides. However with the injuries we are not in a perfect scenario. I care more about winning games and Sandin can help us do that. If he keeps playing well he deserves to stay.

Marincin is good in limited minutes with the right partner. We will not be able to rely on him to play higher in the lineup then he currently is. I'm not a hater, just a realist based on four years of watching him.
