I'm sure if he is willing to take 7.4 there is about 27 other teams he'd sign with before new jersey

I don't think anyone wants to play in NJ. Unless they just trade away all the bad contracts and recruit all the superstars like they do in the NBA, then they might get everyone to join

That's correct too. He's been the only defenseman in NJ that can actually play decent defense

It's just my opinion, I could be wrong, but I think the demand for him and top 4 D in general is not a crazy number nowadays...whether he deserves it or not is another question...

The Devils will likely have to big to get rid of Subban. He's still a serviceable 2nd pair D worth about $5M AAV. They're better off just building around him.

If he gets 7 million then what does someone like Barrie, who has had multiple 50 point season, command? Vatanen is having a nice season and all, but he’s never eclipsed the 40 point mark

Vatanen is having a career year on a bad team. He's gonna get paid, but I'm thinking somewhere around $4.5M for 4-5 seasons. Ellis is at $6.25 and he's a legit top pair D. Vatanen is a 4th or 5th D on a contending team. His point totals are inflated b/c of his PP time. He likely won't play much PP on a good team. Gardiner only got $4M and his career numbers were superior to Sami's. No way, no how does he get $6M+ AND term.

Barrie 8 + then.

Isn't there always a team that overpays somebody each year? I'm just expecting that some team desperate for Top 4 help will do it. Might be wrong, but it wouldn't shock me.

Wow yeah that's wild. That would push Pietrangelo above the 10-10.5 million mark. I'm not saying it won't happen, I want everyone to get paid, it's just interesting to hear other peoples opinions on what a players value would be on the open market.
