Team: 2019-20 Custom Team
Team Explanation
I wanted Couturier to be on here, but I just couldn't fit him.

The goalies were tricky. I considered including Kuemper and/or Holtby on the team but decided not to.

Did i pick the right players?

PP1: Crosby, McDavid, Huberdeau, MacKinnon, Hamilton
PP2: Tavares, Stamkos, Marner, Marchand, Burns
PK1: Bergeron, Stone, Weber, Letang
PK2: O'Reilly, Scheifele, Pietrangelo, Doughty

Marner is having a great season. He’s 8th amongst Canadian players in points. 5th in points per game. 8th in points per 60. He plays in all situations, matches up against the opponent’s top lines. Why shouldn’t he make it? He’s a lock. Brings everything you’re looking for.

He's not having that great of a season. Not amazing in xGF/60 or driving CF/60 either.

He'd make the second team

Well, Marner played really bad during the first 20 games under Babcock, like he was abysmal. That’s impacted his numbers but the way he’s played recently, he’s one of the best wingers in the game.

Based offf your advanced stats, you probably Nylander ahead of Marner. And Rust.

I agree on Rust but Nylander, he’s on pace for 72 points you can’t compare that to Marner who’s on 100 point pace. At the end of the day, it’s how much you produce and no one can deny that Marner is a 90-100 point player. That is elite even though he’s overpaid. For me, Marner is the third most talented under 25 winger in hockey after Pastrnak & Lafreniere.

To be honest, Marner doesn’t have elite advanced possession metrics. Dominik Simon is better than him.

pretty obvious that he should make it hes 11th in Points per game this year and like someone else mentioned he plays pp and pk. people have a bias against the leafs, you saying he wouldnt make it sounds like leafs hate cause he should make it. the fact you mentioned rusts name in the same sentence as marner is assanine

Well, there have been many players that are more deserving of a spot than Marner. Players like Huberdeau, Couturier, Stone, Point, Gallagher, and some more.

Rust has had a better season than Marner. Rust is 13th overall in the league in GAR with 13.3 and Marner has yet to eclipse 6 GAR (he's at 5.9)

31 of the 31 gms are taking marner over rust and throwing your bs GAR out the window. gallagher being better than marner is absolutely hilarious. those other guys you mentioned you can argue for sure. but when the team is so stacked at center, your not taking couturier and playing him on the wing.

Yes because NHL GMs are a great way to evaluate players.

Data means more than opinion.

Gallagher has been so much better than Marner it's funny, and Couturier would be the 3C behind Crosby and McDavid

coming from a leaf fan, if im going overall player im taking marner, he plays in every situation and has shown to be more consistent, find marner to have more iq as well. thats not taking anything away from willy both of them arent at their prime level yet. gms will take contract into it which obisouly theres a gap

well GMS are literally paid to put teams together, so its their job, you give them the option between rust and marner and they laugh in your face. gallagher isnt even remotely close to what kinda of player marner is, its funny how your even using it as an argument. cant even believe this is up for discussion

Just because someone is paid to do something, doesn't mean they're good at it. I guarantee a random pleb off the street could make a better team than someone like Benning, Fenton, Chiarelli, or Cheveldayoff

Gallagher blows Marner out of the water in a 3 year sample, but sure, go ahead and believe in an opinion that's objectively false.
