What the crap is this? Larsson isn't a top pair defenceman. Not even close. This is just a mess.

Yup... he is a high end 2lw or a low end 1lw. And the leafs add... gross. I’m sorry but Larsson has not worked out in your favour.

Only Vegas. Rest are either fair or tilted away from the leafs.

Larsson is what he is, it is no point in still being mad at him or for that trade, it was years ago now. I love Larsson and love watching him play, he is my kind of D, punishing hitting D. Love those guys

He's top 6 and would be right there in Edmonton,

Yup, it’s just trade value that he lacks. With bear and Bouchard coming up it wouldn’t hurt to keep a physical presence.

Yes he would make our 2nd line with Nuge. Or they can keep Nuge/Drai/Yama together and play him on 1st line with McDavid. I love Kapanen more, but I think we need left winger, not right winger

!))%, he is not tradable if I am oilers, Benning would be the odd man out, but I am not trading until next year. Bouchard can play another half to 3/4 year in AHL

Larsson wouldn't be top pair in TO, he wouldn't be 2nd pair. Both Barrie and Holl are better. He would replace Ceci, that has value sure, but why would TO trade a top 6 forward for a bottom pair defenceman?

Yah i totally see that Holl and Barrie are better by looking at you guys having one of the best goalies in the league with one of the worst goals against stats. apples and oranges, you have no defense, only offensive D

Most people do. Johnsson is the better of the two by a small margin. Leafs have tons of top/middle 6 forwards coming up that are all lefties. Mikheyev, engvall, Robertson and Korshkov.

Bracco is the only righty but his defensive game is not good enough to allow him on a system like the leafs.

And we need lefties now and next year after I did the make a team thing. Unles Benson steps in for top 6 which I think he will be a 3rd liner, not 2nd

They are not the strongest defensively but their goals against average has been much better under Keefe than t was under Babs, also if you take the backup starts out of the equation (At least all beyond the last 4 starts) the numbers are much better. People like to make broad generalizations without looking deeper into the stats. Larsson would do nothing to make TO much better defensively, thats not how hockey works. You get better when the full 5 man unit takes less chances and defends more.

You need 3 larssons to go with your 3 puck moving defense, that is the defensive problem i see with the leafs IMO

That isn't how the NHL works either, 3 Larssons just make it difficult to move the puck up the right hand side of the ice. He's not an effective puck mover and relies on a better partner to do that. What really makes a pair work is two guys that can defend, and pass and skate with the puck. Larsson would be worse in TO than he is in Edmonton. He's not good enough with the puck to work in TO's system.

There are a lot of people that still like the idea of a big, tough, defenceman who blocks shots, hits people and stands up for his teammates, however, many of those, have dismal possession stats and usually do more harm than good. They just can't do the things two way guys can. Passing it up ice quickly, or skating the puck out of danger when they have too. It may result in a few more goals against but the offense and possession that they bring far outweighs any benefits the stay at home guys offer. Apart from the PK where a guy like Larsson comes in handy.

I dont mean 3 rd, 3 guys like Larsson. Washington, blues, pitts and kings both have those guys, especially blues, so I am not sure what you are talking about

I disagree, St Louis has really good two way guys. Pittsburgh when they won had almost exclusively two way guys. Washington had Orpik on the 3rd pair but the rest of their defence was very mobile. Mobile is everything, it helps if they are bigger though as the wear and tear of the playoffs is tough, fortunately TO is a big team.

2 way guys are very different to me than offensive D. Bouchard coming up is Offensive D, Klefbomb is 2 way guy....just as an example. leafs have Cecci, Barrie as complete offensive D. Rielly is more offensive than 2 way guy as well, but i am open to what you have to say, I think Sandin is also offensive as well, is there a discrepancy there, to many offensive guys on the team, need to slide the scale to maybe a couple defensive or 2 way guys

In all fairness my comment wasn’t directed towards the trade. Just that he hasn’t worked out as planned.

It does get brought up a lot. It’s just one of those really bad trades. A good reminder of what happens when there isn’t proper asset management when trying to fill gaps.

The sad thing is, that isn't even Chiarelli's worst trade as the Oilers GM. cry
