Two firsts is a bit steep. Couture is good but his contract is not.

Avs should accept that one. Interesting trade.

Toronto wins that trade and should accept it. But I think Buffalo would decline. They don't look like a playoff team, and that Couture contract (especially term) doesn't look good. Wouldn't trade two 1st's for that if there's a chance you don't make the playoffs

Dont like the Meier or Couture trades. Would need a top prospect coming back for either of them and not just picks

2, 2nds and Ceci for a small upgrade over Ceci who can't play Right side a backup that may or may not be better than Hutchinson and Heed who is a nobody. Is not a win. That is a big fat loss.

Also that Avs trade is bad. Meier seems like a 60 point winger, which is very good no doubt, however, he's getting 10 million on his next contract, or at the very least will get that for 1 year and walk himself to FA. Terrible contract.

On the Meier deal, I'd easily substitute that 1st and Henry+Bowers for Byrum, but don't think Avs accept.

I dont think we really need Byram, but Newhook would be an interest

Interesting you (and others) mention the term on Couture's contract. Around the Sharks the consensus is that his contract's a steal in that Cooch took a hometown discount with his signing.

He's as smart a player as they come as far as 2-way players go. Keep in mind he's spent most of his career learning from Jumbo and Patty in how they take care of their bodies too. But at the end of the day he won't be worth his contract at 36, but you have to give a little extra for later if you want value now.

Well I think the AAV looks good, and for the Sharks (who were, and basically still are in win-now mode) it is a good contract. However, the Sabres aren't a playoff team yet and it might take a couple more years for them before they will be, considering their division. I wouldn't take that Couture trade from their point of view. You're a non-playoff team and as you say: he won't be worth his contract during the final few years. But if you won't take advantage of the upcoming years, there are just a few good years left. Wouldn't trade a couple firsts for that

Hmm makes sense from that perspective. But you really think BUF's a few years away from competing? I honestly had them breaking out at the start of the year. The have a good core with Eichel Ristalainen and Skinner. Add Cooch to that core and it's a matter of adding supporting cast from there on.

Sabres should keep their two picks...good chance lottery picks even with Couture and spend the 8m elsewhere. Coutures M NTC probably stops any deal anyway.

Reason I did BUF for Couture was because of the potential fit there but also Logan's well-known love for the city of Buffalo, so if he waives for anywhere it's there (same with Vlasic and Montreal).

Yeah I do think it will take a few years. I agree about the core, but I think they lack depth and a true #1 goalie. Tampa, Boston and Toronto have more starpower and they have a #1 goalie. Right now, I think Florida is better than Buffalo. Despite their defensive struggles. Anyway, I think their only way into the playoffs is by wildcard. And right now, I doubt this team will win enough games vs potential playoff teams to get the wildcardspot

You’re not getting close to that return for Couture because of the contract he is on.... it pays him to age 37!

Sorry I refuse to let this become a thing -- Couture is NOT on a bad contract. It's not the best contract in the league but it's still great.

That’s why the sharks are in such a terrible spot. Don’t pay players to when they are 37/38....

I'd settle for not paying players till they're 40 at this point with Burns' contract... but Couture's contract's more than okay for the aav even with the term.
