i thought about putting in stetcher, but tanev is the better player. to old? or resign value to high?

Kinda both. Tanev style would be perfect, but he is nearing the time of his career when he is on downfall. Stecher seems like Spurgeon. Quiet but reliable.

Kapanen would be available but it won't be cheap. There are almost no 3rd line RW's who are close to on pace for 20+ goals and 50 points. He is definitely a top 6 forward and those are never cheap.

I think Tanev is the guy to get, if you can get him for a relatively cheap cost and also get him signed for 2-3 years at a reasonable rate. I think the Sports Science team in TO will help keep him healthy and him with Rielly would be sick!

The cap between Tanev and who he replaces on the Leafs...either Ceci or Barrie, certainly isn't Kapanen.

The insiders have reported that the leafs would be looking for a similar aged/similar contract in any deal with kapanen/johnsson/kerfoot. They are too valuable to deal for 1-1.5 seasons of a player. Say what you want about them, but all 3 are high end 3rd liners who can play in every situation, are on good contracts and have proven are easily able to step into a top 6 role and thrive. These proposals for older defensemen who are only declining are frankly ridiculous.

i think his value will keep going up until the deadline. he's healthy and playing some of his best hockey. after the deadline thought i think you're right. over 30, pending UFA i hope VAN can re-sign him. 2-3 years at equal or less than he makes now. that would be ideal

Tanev isn't a game changer that the Leas would trade Kapanen. Do playoff hopeful Canucks have a NHL competent RHD to replace Tanev?

Brogan Rafferty is tearing up the AHL right now. doesn't necessarily carry over the NHL, but i think they will be calling him up soon to see what he's got
