Leafs Talks

Created by: Leafsmania
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 29, 2019
Published: Jan. 17, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Georrgy from NYR would be great but leafs could use $$ might and LTIR wizardy to help them get some depth for the stretch run. If we have to put equalization payments in may as well use our $$ when we can.

Leafs take on Gaboriks contract for this year and next so Ottawa doesnt have to pay him. Get Agostino for next year as another cheap place holder. Leafs get depth D. Melnik saves some $

Ana looking to take on more salary for assets by placing Kesler/Eaves on LTIR, leafs take Eaves to save them some $ and give up a decent depth player under control. Only need miller for 10-12 games down the strech and he gets to chase a cup.

If Souperman is ready for playoffs, we can add him after the cap does not matter.

If leafs cant find a suitor for Ceci once Rielly is back we can drop him to AHL. Bring him up if more injuries.

You clearly don't get how LTIR works. Ottawa declines. As a team that is trying to operate close to the cap floor, Gaborik's contract is valuable for Ottawa.

Also that is a laughable offer for DeMelo.

I think what he is pointing to is actual money not cap. I also don’t think he knows these contracts are insured.

Yeah that's what struck me. I had DeMelo you the Leafs in the preseason, but was thinking it would cost... more than nothing

Just noticed DeMelo is scratched on this team too, while Rielly is injured, so he doesn't make the top 7 D!

Also, isn't this giving up a lot for the Ryan Miller rental, even before saving Ana the Eaves money? I do think they should rent, not go after Georgiev or Martinez if looking for this positions, but damn!

DeMelo is an RHD with fantastic underlying numbers who plays 20 minutes a night. He's a good skater, and while he's not an overly gifted puck mover, he's able to get the puck up ice effectively and with control.

He does a lot of things that guys like Colin Miller or Josh Manson get so much love for, but he does it at 900k.

If Ottawa isn't wowed by an offer he's staying in Ottawa. If it were up to me he wouldn't even be made available.

Agreed. Doesn't make sense to move him, he's young, good, and has years of team control left. Rebuilding with him in the mix makes sense. Getting a fair return for what he brings won't be easy, and might turn out real bad. BUT, Ottawa is the place it might happen. Great history of bad evaluations of D in trades. See Phaneuf, D. and Zaitsev, N.
