Rangers match. They have a ton of cap space next season, and Lundqvist's contract comes off the books after next season, freeing up even more. They could easily afford this.

They match then trade him because 5 years at that price os a great deal for any team and I doubt they plan on sending him down for the year or letting Shesterkin leave for Russia

Tons of cap space? They have 13 skaters signed 5 rfa’s and 16m (plus cap rise). No the leafs aren’t offer sheeting anyone and that contract could be horrible.

Would have to wait one year to trade him. What if he has s poor season? OS is a bad idea and leafs aren’t sending one.
