Trade with ANH

Created by: BC98
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 18, 2020
Published: Jan. 18, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Gudbranson is an old school type defenceman. The numbers may not support me in anyway as far as wanting this player. However i believe there is such a thing as a team finding value in a player where another might not. For the Leafs Gudbranson fills a team need and adds depth. Bottom line is i will never argue the numbers about this guy with anyone but i like his style of play and i just have that feeling like his personality / style is what the room/team on and off the ice would be better having going into the post season.

We'll even retain 50% (I mean we have plenty of cap anyway)... While yes I think Guddy is better than Ceci, and I would honestly gladly pay him 2ish mil he's not worth a second lol

Haha there are rumours moving around online about a trade involving ceci and Gudbranson. Im just a fan of Gudbranson. Ultimately u are going to have fans who like players with Gudbransons style and still think its needed in the playoffs and fans who dont like this style and think in old thinking.
Paul Maclean told me a couple years back " people think the game has changed and it has. But when the new season starts (playoffs) the game hasnt changed that much".

Id take Gudbranson at like 1.5-2M AAV, But not with 2nd rounder involved. Ceci and like 4th for Gudbranson half retained and 6th I would do.. Gudbranson is worse than Ceci tbh..

This feels like another year of a Ceci level (albeit a completely different style and game) of defender for similar money but for another year AND we have to dump a 2nd to do it.

honestly even if they ate half of his contract & took Ceci on I wouldn't pay a 2nd. This would likely end the deal there and then for Anaheim but I can live with that.

A 2nd round pick has a 5% chance of playing an NHL game. Almost the same % chance as a 3rd or 4th.

The post is more about the player Gudbranson with the Leafs and not what goes back and fourth in the trade. Make it an 18th round pick in 2049 for all i care. The post/question is would the leafs be interested in him

uh a 2nd rounder has a much higher chance of playing at least 50 NHL games (44%, see link: https://www.tsn.ca/playing-the-percentages-in-the-nhl-draft-1.206144) but regarding Gudbranson I would be interested in a Ceci deal only if Anaheim ate half of his contract. The return matters to me (I wouldn't pay a 2nd without adding like a half dozen conditions lol) but yes in a perfect storm kind of move I wouldn't mind him in the #6 slot.

There were roughly 136 2nd round selections made between 2011 and 2017 that have played at least one NHL game... There were 211 total picks I think... That's a well over 50% chance, and scouting is only getting better... (By my counting... Which definitely could be wrong, but not by that much)
