The simmonds trade makes sense for Toronto. The montreal one decidedly does not

I wouldn’t like Weber either but it would make them “tougher”

A few thoughts:

We need a NHL ready player to play on our top 9 or something like that if we move Georgiev, Bracco and a 2nd rounder isn't enough
Wayne Simmonds is done. Don't trade for him
Weber is having his best season since around 2015, you need to give up more than that to get him. Something like Liljegren, Kaoanen and a 2021 2nd rounder. He's worth that much
WInnipeg doesn't need yet another bottom pairing d-man (Sbisa, Bitetto, Kulikov, Dahlstrom, Beaulieu...), they need a legit top-4 LD-man

That trade is such hot garbage for TML, I'm very glad Ryan is not GM. Weber has been underperforming until this year, and is signed for big money until he is old, even with some retained. Tougher has not mattered to Leafs management so far, crazy to knee jerk the other direction like this.

He has not been underperforming at all. Its 100% the contract

Agreed on Simmonds.
Weber deal is an overpay, for him. Yes, he's finally having a good season, but is overpaid, Leafs are cap limited, and he's signed until old.

Ok maybe that's fair, but the Leafs have Cap trouble, so contract really matters

Weber's play style is sustainable. Mark my words, he'll still be a top pairing d-man at 37 year old and will be a solid top-4 d-man until 40. Plus, don't forget that with inflation, Weber's salary won't hurt THAT bad until maybe the last season and a half of his career...

Yeah, this one is too complicated for me.
What is the meaning? Is there a purpose? Deep questions to try getting your head around.

Also, why retain 1.98 million, leaving a nice, round number like $5877143? Wouldn't 2 million have sufficed? What is the key to unraveling these mysteries, tell us Sherlock, what's the solution?
