I think the Oilers make out like gangbusters in the AA deal. The Avs don't want Perlini, we'll keep Kaut thanks. Also why are you trading away Hirose for a 4th? I thought he was a highly touted prospect. Same with Green, I am sure you could do better than a 4th especially if you're retaining half.

Of course Oilers take that JP is an AHL player and no one is going to give up anything to get Gagner at 30 he is UFA and he has spent more time in the AHL over the last 2 seasons than he has in the NHL. I don't know if any team will even offer him a contract let alone give up an asset to get him.

I think Holland is really trying to get him to sign in Edmonton. He may sign if they make the playoffs and show they're trending in the right direction. If that relationship is to be fixed, Holland may be the guy to fix it. Also, JP IS still young enough to possibly make something of himself in the NHL. I bet a team would take a chance on him. LA actually isn't a bad idea if they pick up a Finn vet in the offseason. After this draft their draft cupboard is going to look really good, especially with a good chance at picking up a lottery pick so they could possibly afford it.

JP is far from a sure thing and maybe Holland is proving a point by not giving into the demands of a play that hasn't proved himself at the NHL level. I'm not a big fan of Nylander but the kid is very talented and he did meet Toronto some what in the middle to sign. The big thing is he proved he could be very successful at the NHL level before he held out. As a Wings fan I can say Holland is a good judge of talent and he might see something that others have missed so trying to sign him to at least a one year deal to prove himself is definitely a likely scenario.

That's a best case scenario for both sides honestly. JP has another chance to play with McDavid or even Draisaitl again, like talk about a chance to increase value. If JP doesn't realize that signing with Edmonton, doing well in a prove-it contract and increasing his value is in his best interest, he's a tool. It gives him more options and opportunities for a team like say Carolina (full of Finns and trending well) to confidently acquire him and mold him into their system. Right now, GMs look at JP similarly to the Avs taking on reclamation projects Yakupov and Nichushkin. It's like "sure we'll give it a shot." And Avs got both of them without trading anything. This limits JPs options severely.
