They do this, if there isn't a trade or any line changes they make it a forum. Kinda annoying but whatever

That’s true. I thought you were going to say 4-5 million.

He's more a supporting role player but one of the best in the league, however they pay him like he captains the first line.

Well he’s developing into one of the elite players in the league. It’s hard to deny that since he’s putting up 90-100 point pace seasons through 82 games. I would take him in Pittsburgh if they had the cap. Who do you think is better between Mitch Marner and Bryan Rust of PIT?

Yeah but he's doing it purely on assists (26 goals last season, 22 prior, 19 prior). Take away Matthews (or Tavares), do you think he's still putting up 94 points last or on pace for 100 this season?

I think the main aspect Marner needs to work on in order to be put in the same category as wingers like Kane is his shooting ability. Playing with centres who have great shots, he prefers to pass and sometimes he passes up the opportunity to shoot. That’s definitely something that he’s gotta work on that can make him an even more dangerous player on his own.

@ChiHawk

What is your opinion on Alexis Lafreniere? Does he look to have the ability to become the best winger in hockey?

Which is why is was a crappy situation the Leafs were in. Marner deserved a bridge deal, but the Leaf's hands were tied and forced them to pay almost $11M long term. Grant it he's only 22, so let's hope he learns to shoot more and dominate by splitting defenders and such like a winger like Kane does and earns his money as he gets better, but if this is the marner at 26 or 27 years old, that contract will be looked back on as a big overpay.

He has the ceiling to be Ovy potentially, but in all likelihood he will be pastrnack which is damn good and pastrnack continues to get better, but not the best in hockey. IMO, hands down the best 2 wingers in the last decade have been Ovy and Kane. It would be a tall order to expect any player (winger) to live up to that.

Well I think Marner has the hands and agility to split past opposing players and he does often but he always tries to pass it after that and sometimes it ends up being a wasted opportunity. If he was willing to make a move on the goalie and take a shot he would be able to earn even more points. But it really looks like he’s afraid.

Yeah I think the same. Lafreniere’s got all the tools to reach the level of someone like Kane or Ovechkin. He’s got great hockey sense, drives the play & plays a great 2 way game. Really smooth and efficient at making plays. He just needs to stay healthy and make a smooth transition.

Yep he’s won the Hart, Lindsay, Calder, Conn Smythe, 2 scoring titles, 3 Time 1st All-Star team, 14th all time in points per game, 3 cups. There is a strong case for him.
