uh no. Johnsson is a valuable second line guy who can play in all situations. That's more than fair.

As a Leafs fan I would prefer to see them target a different backup who won't be as expensive. Someone like Campbell, DeSmith, Smith, Copley, McElhinney etc. The Leafs need to save their big trade chips like Johnsson for D.

I think the the D would sort itself once rielly and muzzin are back. a good backup lets a rest freddie down the line for the playoffs, and georgiev can replace him as the starter in a couple years.

I don't think resigning freddie will go well for us based on goalie contracts in their 30s. Price,Bob, etc. it doesn't tend to go well. Having georgiev gives us another option who could start if freddie's ask gets too high

Except Bracco has never played an nhl game. Supply and demand. Didn’t think you’d have to pay for the “goalie of the future”? That costs a little more than a second line guy (who has third line numbers) and a prospect who has never played an nhl game that is sporting 3 goals in the minors...it’s an underpayment trust me. You’ll need to add or NYR declines.

Georgiev is really good but NYR fans are starting to talk about him as a Hall of famer. Johnsson is only scratching the surface of his potential and would really shine on a team with less depth on the wings. Georgiev needs to prove himself a little more before we start talking about huge returns. Remember how the Talbot trade worked out? Rangers fans gave him the same treatment.

I agree on Freddie. But we definitely need one more shutdown D. Defensive depth is king in the playoffs.

Take for example Kapanen for Larsson - that would give us a healthy D of:
