Description
As a Sabres fan and watching two GMs walking through the door and one new in the last ten years (Darcy, Murray and Botterill), I am with Botterill with what his plan is for the Sabres and hear me out let me explain. Botterill said out straight from the start that he is looking to improve the team in the long run including in the present.

-Even though that he isn't making big moves to help out the forward group right now is because he is looking for players that have decent contract length instead of trading for a player that will be a UFA at the end of this season or next. Why give up prospects and picks that will help in the future for players that might not want to resign in a year or two and hit the free agent market.

- Why would people want to trade for someone such as Toffolli that will be a UFA at the end of this year and give up picks and prospects. Instead go for players that have 3+ years on their contract such as Zucker, Tuch and etc that can help the Sabres when they are more legit of going for a cup run in two or three years. So that's why it may be taking awhile for trade talks to happen to find those kind of players even if any are available at this point in the season.

- It is more realistic for the Sabres to make trade for these kinds of players in the offseason when their values aren't as high before the end of season with teams knowing that the Sabres are desperate for a playoff push, it won't work out in Botterill favor and the blame will be thrown back at Botterill when he meets peoples demands but at the end it dosent workout. If anything Botterill should trade players such as Vesey, Sheary, Rodrigues for picks and use the picks in the offseason to acquire players in big trades.

- I see it as the Sabres either making trades and giving up assets to attempt to make the playoffs this year and hurt their future or wait to the offseason to make trades and make sure their future is secured with well through trades within the offseason.

Nothing really, I think Miller should take McCabe's spot that's all but McCabe shouldn't be the seventh D , so trade him for a pick.

im a rangers fan and obviously do not follow the Sabres very closely but man, I watched him at the WJC and he was SOLID. Saw him as a marc staal(when he was good) type player. Really solid defensively.

No hate toward the sabres. Wish he panned out

I think he can still but only for a year or two though, he almost 26 I think. I just think Miller has more upside that's all. Keep McCabe and trade Miller or reverse. The only reason to keep McCabe is for the physicality which the Sabres don't have so yeah its tough. But the Sabres shouldn't be holding on a quality NHL D as a seventh D, that's just not fair to Miller right now.

I enjoyed reading your Team Explanation. You make several good points. As a Los Angeles fan, I agree with you completely that the only proper way for you to acquire TT would be to sign him in the summer; the only teams that should be trading for him this season are contenders like Boston, Carolina or New York.

I agree with all your points in your explanation. I'm convinced that Botterill is following the Bills plan as to cleaning house and bringing in players that he wants but the problem is that it is easier and faster in NFL than it is in the NHL. Next year Botterill has 30+ mil to work with and only one contract that he is stuck with (Okposo) so it should be an interesting summer for the Sabres
