Going forward, I'm comfortable with Rakell, Comtois and Jones (with Tracey in the wings) at LW and Silfverberg, Kase and Terry at RW. DesLauriers and Grant are the perfect depth forwards and I would keep them based upon their showing this year. In particular, I wouldn't trade DesLauriers for a seventh when he cost us a fourth. The guys I would be looking to move are Shore and maybe Ritchie and one of Larsson or Mahura, all of whom would probably bring better returns than what you have here. Surely somebody needing help at LD (NY Islanders?) would give us a second for Larsson.

I think Grant and Deslauriers are depth forwards we need to keep.

Might be right. However, I would suggest that a team clearly in rebuild need to hang on to as many young assets as possible. There will come a time you move the right ones for the big tuna. Now is not the time.

Build stock in a younger core. Yiu keep Grabt and Deslauriers if the playoffs are realistic next year..... they are not.

Keep and re-sign Grant. Trade Des, but for more like a 4th or 5th. He’s a quality 4th line addition to a contender. Holzer and MDZ can go for whatever.

Why trade Larson or Ritchie? Rather package them for an improvement. I think we’ll regret giving up on Larsson so early like we did Theodore. The kid is rounding out into a solid bottom pairing D-man.

Because I don't want next year to be like this year, and you have to give up something of value to get something of value.

And trading Larsson and Ritchie at the TDL for nothing but picks helps us how exactly?

It helps us start re-filling the pipeline at RhD, for starters. In addition to the three right-handers in the first round, there look to be at least seven reasonable candidates for the second and third rounds, too.

Okay. Can’t say I agree with the strategy, but at least there is a thought process behind it.

I agree with you that it would be far superior to be able to acquire immediate help, especially at RhD. If I thought it was possible to obtain a mid-level young player like Henri Jokiharju or MacKenzie Weegar or even Connor Clifton or Scott Mayfield, I would jump at the chance. But I don't see any of them on our horizon, and I'm certainly not trading for Ristolainen or even Colin Miller. I don't think we can profitably trade our way out of our offensive and defensive inadequacies, which means either signing free agents or drafting well. I think the offense will come with the players we have in the system and the forward we can draft at #2 through #4, or else we draft Jamie Drysdale at #5 through #8 or Brayden Schneider later and hope that in two years, he will be coming on line for us on the defensive side.
