Why does Montreal retain so many contracts? I think you can’t retain more than 3 contracts at a time

cash strapped teams right. plus value goes up if retained contract. i am not aware of such rule. i could be wrong

I know it’s a rule ran into it in NHL 20 franchise mode. Also if a team is low on cap space just take a player with $$$ + prospect

Max 3 retained contracts per season. If those players have contracts for longer than this season, they transfer over to next years 3 contracts as well. So have to either only retain pending UFA's or be very selective with who you retain on.
