Overpayment. Would rather trade for someone else. No matter what habs fans keep telling themselves to make them feel better about their mediocre team with mediocre players, tatar is not worth that.

Lol what?

Poulin isn't that good. He was one of the worst picks of the first round

he was injured this year and was doing great in the Q before he went down. hes got a lot of skill. if he can improve his speed he'll be a great pro

and yet he is worth more than tatar. tatar was benched during playoffs last year, he does not come close to the penguins needs hockey IQ is not great, not a hard working speed guy

All he has is speed and a high motor.

He's projected as a top 9 winger by most scouting sites. I'd easily give him up for someone as good as Tatar

No he's not. He just isn't.

Tatar has been criminally unlucky this year and he's still been producing relatively well (4th of all skaters in xGF/60 and 1st in CF/60).

That was 2 years ago playing for Vegas, last year he put up 58 points for MTL and this year is on pace for over 60 points. And Tatar is nothing but hockey IQ, he is fast enough to keep up but gets most of his points from skill and smarts.

At 6-foot-2 and 206 pounds, Poulin is already pro size. His coach, Stephane Julien, is also impressed with his puck control, shot, and physical domination. Off the ice, he practices professional habits. “Sam, he’s a professional already. He works hard, eats well, and sleeps well,” said Julien (from ‘Beyond The Bloodlines’, – The Hockey News – 5/6/2019).

Poulin is projected to be a late first-round pick by NHL Draft ranking services. His size, combined with above average puck handling, shooting, and play-making skills makes him an attractive ‘power forward’ NHL prospect. He still needs some work on his foot speed, otherwise, he would be a top 10 pick. The intangible characteristic that scouts will need to consider is his leadership qualities; something that was clearly evident during both the regular season and the playoffs.

Samuel Poulin is a junior player in an adult body. He is physically strong, plays a mature game and has a good work ethic. He is a goal-scoring winger with an excellent shot. There are several aspects of Poulin’s game that stand out, namely his shot and ability to get open for clean looks at the net. He can finish in a variety of ways on both his forehand and backhand and his one-timer from the circles is devastatingly accurate — a shoot-first winger who knows how to find the back of the net. Sniping winger with a lethal shot, he is a high-volume shooter who does a lot of damage off the rush. Can score at will, but his playmaking is highly underrated.” – Benoit Belanger/mckeenshockey.com

regular season doesn't mean crap in the playoffs. he has an awful work ethic he is a solid regular season scorer doesnt perform in playoffs, he may have an offensive hockey iq he doesn't play defense at all. watch him play he is a floater.

"Doesn't play defense at all".

He has a -2.13 CA/60 impact and -0.013 xGA/60 impact since the 2016 season started. So to say that he "doesn't play defense" is a straight-up lie.

Everyone and their mother can put up points in the QMJHL.

His offensive game probably won't translate to the NHL where there's actual defense being played. He'll probably turn out as a top 9 checking winger. Like ZAR with a tad more offensive ability.

Literally watch every game he plays and none of this true. Als getting him for 2 playoff runs and a season and a half, how he plays in the playoffs is how he is used, cant be a third line guy like in Vegas, has to be a top 6 guy like in Detroit.

Bro did he smash your girl or something? Hes a first round pick that needs to time to develop. Calm down and stop overpaying for a mediocre player lol

So he uses his size and strength to essentially bully younger and smaller kids, vs in the NHL where he won't be able to do that vs world class athletes... Plus he's slow, i really have a hard time seeing anything but another Maata from him... Iirc he has powerful strides (Maata) just couldn't move fast (also Maata)

Bc he can't skate, and uses his size to just bully younger and smaller kids in the worst defensive league in the CHL (like srsly... Who was the last good d man to come out of the Q... Letang...? Ik using just high end talent isn't the best metric, but there just aren't many former Q players that are pro d men rn, plus like all scouting places say the Q sucks defenseively) but he won't be able to use his size and strength in the NHL when everyone has that strength, and most d pairs have at least one guy that's 6'1'' or 6'2'' minimum

he plays no defense or plain awful on defense i dont know what games you watch he is a one dimensional player. how he is used will be the same as a pen. what type of wing excels with the pens fast hard working two way players.example rust, McCan, jake, khuan, tanev, who doesnt players like tatar or AG or where out there welcome like kessel.

Hannah Stuart - theScoreMay 1st: "He's a power-forward type, with the size that more traditional scouts like to see combined with a killer shot, passionate work ethic, and good puck-protection skills. He needs to work on his first step to improve his quickness and be more explosive in his skating."

funny these pro scouts think different. he does need to work on his first step but he is an 18/19 year old kid with high hockey IQ and work ethic. top 6 winger

Sam Conentino - SportsNetApr. 9th: "Plays a pro style of game predicated on hard work and smarts with enough skill to do damage offensively."
