I have seen worse things. But the Spurgeon trade makes no sense. He will be a UFA at the end of the year.

I don't think we get first from NSH for that Pkg. Juuse is Pekke's replacement no?

turris is like really bad lol, and he has term

we can also throw in prospects, but at the very least we have juuse and blackwood going forward and I think thats a good enough tandem.

and honestly idk who the correct partner is, the message im sending is I want to deal butcher and swap for a different dman, butcher + a first should be a competent defender. I chose Minnesota because they could use the first and a younger guy as they retool on the fly to bring the age down.

We're not in position to give up a first.

who nj? Nj has 3 others per this armchair gm.

Unless you mean minnesota in which case theyre getting the first

The devils would prefer 3 firsts and spurgeon over 4 firsts and no spurgeon

Spurgeon's new deal starts next year and is a cap number of about 7.5MM for 7 years.

Somebody and a first is the right price for Spurgeon. BUT, the Wild don't need defensemen, even with losing Spurgeon.

We need right shot centers or RWs who are under 25 years old who are NHL middle 6 guys or top prospects. The Devils don't have anyone who fits that bill. Even your prospects aren't lighting up the AHL. So, I don't see any trade between the Wild and NJ.

yupp sounds about right.

Again, im more looking to move a 1st and butcher than get spurgeon specifically. Thanks for the feedback

You could have prime Brodeur on this team and they still would be awful.

I do think trading Butcher is a good idea; the Devils have 5 puck-moving defencemen that cannot play defence. I think Vatanen will be gone at the TDL, Butcher and/ or Carrick in the off-season.

I love Spurgeon. I love his contract. I don't love the 7 year term, but even if he gets to 5 or 6 years with production and we bought out the rest it's a win-win.

Too much money, too long, and a NMC. Nothing about his contract is good. His production doesn't match the money. He's getting paid like a top-10 d-man and has topped 40p once in his career.

He's a defensive defenseman and will never be a point getter. He's worth every penny.

The Wild have Suter, Brodin, and Pateryn now, and had Scandella in the past, those guys are defensive d-men. They can do the things like clear the crease and play the body. Spurgeon is the passenger on the d-pairing, he can't carry a weaker partner like Suter and Brodin can and have.

I went through the games for MN that he missed and that he played in, the overall record was slightly better without Spurgeon in the lineup than with him. It's not a small sample size of games that he's missed either, close to a full season worth.
