Big SJS Trade

Created by: AndrewLadd
Team: 2019-20 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 20, 2020
Published: Jan. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
SJS
  1. Clutterbuck, Cal
  2. Sorokin, Ilya [Reserve List]
  3. Toews, Devon
  4. 2020 1st round pick (NYI)
  5. 2020 3rd round pick (NYI)
  6. 2021 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Clutter is in for salary. Toews is in because next year we have 2 top 4 LHD in Pelech and Leddy and we could possibly go for a FA or resign Dillon. Also, trading Toews means more money to resign Pulock and Barzal. Sorokin can be SJS future starter, and we can draft another guy while we stick with Varly and probably sign a different FA goalie. Picks may need to be adjusted for value reasons, but in my eyes this looks good.

Why on earth would you want that Meier contract. Unless he develops into a super elite forward you are paying a 60 point player 10 million in 4 years. And then he'll just accept his QO of 10 mil and walk to FA

Wait, he’s getting 10 mil on his last year of his contract?

Yeah, all those short term bridge deals people use to say the Leafs massively overpaid their guys are monumentally worse deals. Laine is going to get 8 million on his QO regardless of how good he does, Point gets 9, Tkachuk gets 9, Meier gets 10. They are all terrible deals. When they are getting their next contracts it'll be after Seattle expansion and the US TV deal meaning the cap will go up a lot more than it has and that will inflate these contracts even more. If you can lock up Barzal long term for less than 11, that will be a huge win. If he goes for one of these 2 or 3 year bridge deals, you guys are so screwed.

Laine at 8 isn’t bad. Tkachuk and Point shouldn’t be bad. But I agree, Meier’s contract is awful, that’s gross. I don’t even really want him anymore even though if he played with Barza he could put up elite numbers. But yeah, 10 is just gross. And I’ve been rooting for a long term contract with Barzal forever. Only problem is we would need to shed salaries like Boychuk and Clutter and maybe even Ladd

Yeah no interest in this. Toews and Sorokin are good but If we trade Meier I would need a serous elite forward prospect coming back. Toews is more of a third line guy

All of those guys are going to want long term money on their next deals and if these come on the heals of a big cap increase does anyone honestly think they are going to only get 10 million a year? No chance, we will be seeing massive contracts for all of these guys.

I’ll keep it real I don’t follow the islanders I coulda sworn he was a forward lol. But anyway that helps my point. Walstrom would be interesting but no need for a D man

I’m surprised, I thought the sharks would want a dman more. I’m very wary about giving up Wahly tho

Not at all. We have a full d line this year and only bottom pairing slots for next. Wouldn’t want to take on an extra dman who’s going to want to get paid in a few years with the massive holes in the offence we have

Yeah the only way we move from a forward is a serious overpayment or for a young guy who could replace that forward in the future
